Could a donor avoid being traced by not updating HFEA details?

In this situation would a person really become anonymous? I’ve advised the person trying to do this that 1). It wouldn’t guarantee it and 2). They entered into a moral and legal contract at the time of donation and should adhere to that ?

Due to a change quite a while ago in sperm/ egg donation it changed that when a donor conceived child reached 18 they would be given identifying info and last known address of their donor/s.

If a donor didn’t update their info with hfea to record address changes and changed their name by deed poll / marriage and didn’t update that how would any child be able to find them or would it then be impossible?

With the popularity of home dna kits these days no one stays anonymous for long
