Please recommend me a cheap laptop with a good keyboard

I need a new laptop as I have started volunteering with a charity. They don’t have money to provide me with one and I don’t have £1,000 to burn.

My lovely current laptop is too old to upgrade to Windows 11 so I don’t get the Microsoft security updates. I have paid for it Norton which IIRC some people on here are not fans of!

Please recommend me a laptop which is around £500, cheaper if possible 😢 (if it exists)

I need it for:

emails
web browsing
a couple of specific websites
word, excel

The main criteria is a decent keyboard which is why I still have my old laptop. I need to do some design stuff which I can’t do on my phone.

So very basic stuff.

I don’t really want a tablet with a keyboard attachment unless anyone finds that a brilliant option.

Chrome book and then pay for a Microsoft 365 subscription? Something like this I found this at John Lewis & Partners. What do you think?

Wow, that looks good. The problem I’ve had has with tablets is sorting word documents into folders but this looks as though it had the capability. That looks fantastic, thank you!

How much is a Microsoft subscription?

If all you want it for is email, web service and Microsoft office, the cheapest available option would be significantly more than enough. You could do all of the above on any device with a £20 cheap keyboard but if you actually want a laptop with a keyboard, here
