Can Year 7s use one pair of boots for football and rugby?

The secondary school uniform list for DS states under shoes:

Football/Rugby Boots x 1
Astro Trainers x 1

I thought rugby and football boots were different, but as DS does not play these sports (and hates them in PE unfortunately), we have never had to buy them before.

Can you get boots that are suitable for both football and rugby for a Year 7, or do you think they mean a pair of each? I know I can ask the school but I thought I’d check here first.

I know we can get the Astro Trainers ok so it’s the “football/rugby boots x 1” that I am not sure of.

Are you absolutely sure your DS will need these items? Can you ask a parent who already has a child at the school? Our school lists them on the PE kit but they seem to suffice in trainers.
This is a school which is zero tolerance on school uniform and equipment. Unfortunately no one has had a sensible look at the PE kit.

I assume they mean a pair of astro boots and studded boots?

Mine do PE in trainers and have a pair of studded boots for football.

You can get boots with interchangeable studs.

Yes, we use the same pair for football and rugby, I buy football boots with plastic studs on FB marketplace for about £10 and resell when they outgrow them. They only get used for a dozen games lessons, so this works well for us. Using their trainers isn’t an option because the football/rugby boots get too muddy to be worn for anything else (eg indoor PE), so this is the most efficient and cost effective way of doing it for us.

Good luck to your DS at his new school!
