Found in a Welsh stream up a big hill. It’s very hard. Any experts give an opinion? Any non-experts want to hazard a guess?

I'm guessing we're waiting on a photo to be approved?

FurForksSake · 03/08/2026 21:25

Sadly so. My rock may be risqué.

Well, this is intriguing. Can’t wait to see a picture.

Zov · 03/08/2026 21:32

Waiting patiently for the rock to appear. 👀

FurForksSake · 03/08/2026 21:47

Sorry. It’s truly a very boring rock. It’s I think maybe A brown orange color and there is a hole in one side and you can see something yellow in the hole that looks like a tiny spine or maybe the edge or a shell, but it is very straight.

hopefully won’t be long!

There are facebook groups where you can ask about possible fossils, get your pic approved immediately...

FurForksSake · 03/08/2026 21:56

Well at the moment it’s schrodingers fossil until the pictures approved here… I’ll hold out and then try Facebook. The excitement is building here, I’m sure.

I would post this on Reddit you will get lots of traffic on this !

frenchnoodle · 04/08/2026 09:43

According to my fossil loving kid, you may have got a chunk of Anomite.

Although the shell ridges look too thin in my opinion.

Ooh how cool, I reckon an ammonite

orangehandles · 04/08/2026 11:07

Looks more like a part of a skeleton to me. Maybe take a trip to the local museum?

Crocodocodile · 04/08/2026 11:40

Looks like fossilised teeth of some sort!

TherapistInATabard · 04/08/2026 11:43

If you’re anywhere near Wrexham, drop in and ask the experts at Stori Brymbo.

MotherPooperior · 04/08/2026 11:45

Looks like a side on section of ammonite.

Where (ish) was the stream? That might give you some pointers as to what fossils are known to be found there.

FurForksSake · 04/08/2026 15:31

i have asked Reddit and they have said it’s part or a segment of a crinoid, which looking at pictures I think is right! And we have learnt that Dolgellau where we are was under the sea and this was from that period.

OP posts:
Springbuck · 04/08/2026 20:00

My paleontologist son said it’s probably a Crinoid.

Springbuck · 04/08/2026 20:00

Oops sorry I see you already have the answer.

FurForksSake · 04/08/2026 20:03

No oops, how cool to have a palaeontologist son @Springbuck!!

good to have someone proper think that’s the answer. I’m not sure they are very rare but we are pretty excited by it!
