Bad haircut - would you complain?

Had my hair cut at salon about 10 days ago. First time client. A couple of people at work told me they’d been there and their hair is lovely. Had to wait a couple of weeks for an appointment as all stylists booked up which I thought was pretty impressive must mean a good in demand salon.

Decided to give it a go as my normal hairdressers has become unaffordable around £65/£70 just for a cut. This salon offered new clients a cut for £25, bargain!

I was really excited to go, stylist really nice although spent the entire time talking about her three children but that’s ok just let her talk. I told her I wanted a couple of inches off the length, long layers and some face framing. Asked her where she’d worked before and it’s a hairdressers in a pretty bad part of town in a shopping parade but that’s OK shouldn’t affect her cutting skills I thought.

She spent an hour doing it and I realised when I got home (no one even realised I’d had my hair cut) she’d basically spent an hour doing a trim. My hair is lank and lifeless with no style at all it is literally just a limp curtain of hair. I hate it.

I had booked in for a colour with this lady - 30% off on Tuesdays! But no way can I risk it with this stylist. I need to cancel that. When I went to pay their card reader wasnt working and I had to stand there and do a BACS transfer. As my bank is hysterical about security I had to wait for a code then I put that in plus everything else.Apparently it had been broken since this stylist started her job only 5 weeks before.

So disappointed as will need to go somewhere else as can’t stand looking at my curtain hair.

This stylist was lovely so don’t want to get her in trouble in her new job but also feel like I want to mention how bad the cut is when I ring to cancel the colour but it has been 10 days.

Would you ring and give feedback?

Would I complain?

Yes.

Cuppachuchu · 03/08/2026 10:53

Definitely. Perhaps speak to the owner, she will probably invite you back for someone else to do it properly. I would also ask if someone else can do the colour.

It sounds like she will need to concentrate more on cutting than chatting in future. I think if you pop back to the salon they should correct your hair. I prefer my stylist to concentrate on cutting rather than chatting.

Well geared myself up to ring salon and they are shut today. Definitely going to ring back tomorrow and ask if someone else can do something with my hair. It really is awful.

I have - but I mentioned it at the time. I had asked for a long bob and it was still past my shoulders

She said she was worried about taking too much off at once! I held my hand again to where I wanted it and she cut more off but silently and reluctantly. I didn’t go back

Can you post a pic?

ShakyBake · 03/08/2026 23:12

You need to post a photo as although I am imagining what it could be like, at best im guessing. Can you pop a photo on and we can judge ?
