One night alone in Edinburgh, looking for stay and evening ideas

I’ve got one night on my own in Edinburgh before meeting friends for the weekend, in November. I’d love ideas for a great place to stay, eat and maybe a cinema or theatre or spa.

Budget?

The one spa at the sheraton is lush, but quite pricey.

In the st James quarter and bonnie and wild there is great for food, it's like an up-market street food place where you can choose from lots of different pop ups.

The Film House has also reopened, or the Scotsman Picture House looks quite special but limited showings. Or there's an everyman in the St James.

I'm sure someone else will be along with hotel suggestions...

For spa go to Sheraton it's expensive but very nice. The rest are not even close. There are some lovely hotels on George Street and Princess street but we always recommend premier inn to guests. For a charming hotel thats walking distance to city centre try the Bruntsfield.

I'm not a fan of bonnie and wild but George Street and Princess street are good for lots of restaurants.

What is your budget and cuisine of choice ?

The Royal Scots Club allows non-members to stay and can be booked online. It's central - within walking distance of George Street and Princes Street.

Sheraton looks fabulous.

I'll eat anything really - so weighing up a treat meal or going somewhere with a good atmosphere if you are on your own.

I'm in my late 50s...

The Kitchin would be an obvious choice for a treat meal, or Scran and Scallie.

The Dome is beautiful surroundings, depending what time in Nov it might be done for xmas which is stunning. Or the Signet Library for an afternoon tea.

outsider is good too for food

not sure about the food, but if you’re going in nonmember the Dome on George Street will have all its Christmas decorations out, and is good for a cocktail

Makars mash bar for haggis. Not to be missed!

Food at the Dome is poor but great for a drink and to see the decorations if they are up.

The Sheraton is lovely, but I actually prefer The Kimpton. A little less bland and more down-to-earth.

The Bonham also nice but for me The Kimpton edges it.

I always stay at The Balmoral, very handy for station! They have a spa too. Great places to walk to., really near the castle. If you want to really push the boat out you can stay and eat at The Witchery.

@Tralalalalatata thanks for that - did you try the spa at the Kimpton? The spa at the Sheraton looks a bit fancier....

Never tried either - I would definitely be the last person to ask for thoughts on spas!

If your budget stretches the Balmoral is fabulous. Could easily pass a day having drinks, dinner, at the spa.
