What album by an artist you usually love disappointed you the most?

For me it was Erotica. I loved everything by Madonna up till then & thought this was a very weak album. Never really got back in to her but I still love her earlier stuff

Also Monster by REM. After the perfection of Automatic for the People I thought the follow up was a massive let down

Well I think Madonna’s Confessions 2 only has one and a half good songs. Danceteceria is brilliant but I don’t know if it was worth releasing a whole album to get it out there.
Do like that song though.

Dingley Dell by Lindisfarne. Not a patch on Nicely Out of Tune or Fog on the Tyne.

New album not out yet but am not keen on the singles released thus far (Editors)

Oh and new album by the Strokes, what's with all the vocoder, Julian?!

forceofhabitandnotneed · 03/08/2026 00:13

This Is Hardcore by Pulp. Not a patch on its predecessor Different Class - the only really good track is A Little Soul.

Their subsequent albums have been a fair bit better, though.

Bullet for my valentine - fever. I loved scream aim fire then they release fever and wasnt keen

Inferno by Boards of Canada. So disappointing after a 14-year wait

Life of a Showgirl was very bland after Taylor Swift's previous offerings.

Also thought the same of Life for Rent by Dido.

OK Computer.
Usually love Radiohead otherwise.

Everything released by lana del ray after the born to die album. She went from an alternative sound to very bluesy/jazzy. Not for me at all and such a disappointment - I thought she was fab initially.

SummerNocturnal · 03/08/2026 13:02

Really? I am more a singles gal tbf so at least three songs Lana released after Born to Die are my favourites - Ride (Rick Rubin is a brilliant producer), West coast and Under the chemtrails.
They all sound as fab as that album, although I have the paradise edition so Ride's on there.

Yes, love ride - it's up there for me, but I include it as a born to die album track as I have the paradise edition too. Talking of which, adore God's and monsters too. I just prefer her darker, deeper, more alt side than the breathy jazz vocal she prefers nowadays. I think her range naturally, is lower and her pitch always sounds off when she forces the higher notes.

Noooo! The Erotica album has one of her best songs on it, Bad Girl.

I don't really like any of the songs from any of her albums in the early 90s to mid 00s (I loved the Dick Tracy soundtrack though). She redeemed herself from Ray of Light onwards though but I haven't heard any of her recent stuff
