Glasses wearer and gym locker padlocks- what do I do?

I've finally joined a gym, but how will I use the locker for my bag as I can't read the numbers on the padlock without my glasses on. I only need the glasses for reading though, not in the gym. Anyone figured this out?

I have one of these - it’s push button so easier than a dial and the numbers are very large amzn.eu/d/05kMFBOW

I only use the pool at my David Lloyd but def. need my glasses for the padlock, so take them with me and leave them with my towel at the poolside.

ChicGreyZebra · 03/08/2026 23:04

Omg this is me - I had to get someone to let me into my locker! I just don’t bother spinning the numbers around now.

Masterlock 1500id directional padlock. You set a direction combination for the wheel.

stichguru · 03/08/2026 23:35

Same problem. Get a tiny magnifier and attach it to the stem of the padlock!

Workisntworking · 04/08/2026 00:03

A lady at my gym ties a pair of easy readers to the padlock.

Use a padlock with a key.
Hang the key round your neck on a lanyard. Get one of those ones that pulls apart if it gets caught/ pulled, like many organisations use for work ID. Or tie the key to your shoelaces if it is small.

How about a small folding magnifying glass? They are made for this purpose.

But where do you put the magnifying glass while you're swimming or in the gym

Fiddlesticks1 · 04/08/2026 07:30

I put my glasses in a glass case on the side of the pool. Forgot once and had to ask someone to open it for me. I did tell him after that I would now have to kill him. 🤣🤣

Linguist1979 · 04/08/2026 08:15

Set the padlock to one digit different when you lock it so you know you know you only need to change the left number one digit clockwise.

AndSoFinally · 04/08/2026 09:19

Get either a finger print padlock or one with combination buttons rather than the twist combination. Can can either for less than a tenner on amazon.

either that or a magnifying glass on a keyring hung from the hasp of the padlock

WorstPaceScenario · 04/08/2026 09:21

Use a padlock with a key, and attach the key to the handle of your water bottle? Or if using a key is a struggle without your glasses, use a glasses case which can attach to your water bottle with a small carabiner clip

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/08/2026 10:52

I had this issue! I have a gym top that has a zipped pocket and that’s where glasses go.

FromFrickToFuck · 04/08/2026 10:59

Varifocals and a key pocket in my leggings here. Although I have started leaving my glasses in my locker and taking my son to the gym which also works 😀

ClaredeBear · 04/08/2026 11:03

I only move mine by one click

drspouse · 04/08/2026 11:05

You can also tie your key to your shoelaces -a single key is fine, don't try this with a bunch!

Put glasses in their case. Carry them into the gym. Put them down by the weights machine or in the water bottle holder on the treadmill. Or on a windowsill. What am I missing?!

I can barely keep track of my glasses at home - would 100 percent lose them in the gym. And anyway I don't want to carry them around and to classes.

I don't have room for a key in my current leggings, but that's a good idea @JennyWreny if I look for leggings with a zip pocket perhaps.

I can help you with that one (if you have hair you tie back!

A scrunchie with key zip!!!

My friend brought me one and it’s been a game changer!!!

I have good friends 😆

If your glasses are essential for you to see then you can't leave them in a locker can you? You need to take them with you.

Get your own padlock with a key.

Oh to be young. I can see perfectly well to do almost everything in daily life, except read small print, which I don't generally have to do in the gym.

OP has literally said she has to wear her glasses to read her padlock numbers. So clearly, needs to take them with her.

Branleuse · 04/08/2026 12:41

Wow that's a great idea @itsgettingweird

They're reading glasses, not essential for me to see. Just to see tiny numbers.
