how do you usually spend your summers?

I've been wondering what everyone else does during the summer, especially if you have kids.

For me, I've kind of fallen into the same routine over the last 4–5 years, ever since I started dating again.

In early July, I take a 3–4 day trip with just my son. Then later in July, we do a week-long trip with me, my son, my fiancé, and his kids so we all get some quality time together as a blended family. Then in early August, my fiancé and I take a trip with just the two of us.

Other than that, I usually go to 2–3 concerts or music festivals with friends. That's pretty much the only time during the summer that I do something without my family or my son.

I'll be honest I do get tired of being in "mom mode" 24/7 sometimes, and I think that's pretty normal. Luckily, my son has his own summer plans too. He goes on trips with his friends, and his grandparents also take him away for a bit, so we both get some independence.

Whenever he's not home, I like to use that time to work on myself. I take online classes or learn a new skill. This summer I'm learning some new recipes and trying to get better at using AI.

So that's my typical summer

I get two weeks' holiday In June, I do: DIY house stuff, deep clean, organise the summer.
I work July, mornings only. Child is in summer camp 9-5 all July.
As a family, August is one week at a friend's house abroad. One week camping in the Pyrenees. Odd day trips here and there.
I'll get away 4-5 nights somewhere alone. DH will take child away with family, I'll stay home with the dog, catch up with friends, sleep, read, watch The Mentalist for the umpteenth time!
I might pop over to the UK with child, depending on flight prices.
I'm taking child to Barcelona for the day this week.
Mucho beach!

*We're in Spain. Long school holidays (19th June to 7th September). Child meets up with friends - cinema, beach, shopping, gym, goofing about - this summer they're making music and videos. DH works from home and has a very flexible job. I'm currently catching up with some sewing, DH working, child working their way through a maths book (unhappily!) . Tonight we'll have dinner on the beach: tortilla, wraps, fruit and swimming with the dog while temperatures are low. Add in a daily siesta.

Your summer sounds lovely, OP.
