This morning I went to the local garage to buy petrol and a paper . The paper was £5 and was incorrectly rung through twice so I paid £5 more than I should have . The cashier then did a £5 refund and the receipt says Validated Refund . All good accept my account has been debited the full incorrect amount from the original sale as I would expect but the ‘ refund ‘ is also a debit on my account so now I have overpaid £10 .
The garage says the bank must be wrong because they have processed it correctly . I have never known any back process a refund by debiting your account rather than crediting it .
Any ideas as to what could have happened . There may be a simple answer but right now I can’t think of it .
