Temu. I feel like an idiot.

I wanted to buy a thing to put moisturiser on my back. Like a long stick with a spatula in the end. Googled and found one on temu for a few quid.

Clicked on it and had to download the app for the cheaper price.

Immediately asked to spin a wheel and I 'won' 6 free gifts. Chose them from a page which clearly used an algorithm to know what sort of things to suggest. They were all my sort of things. That took ages. One of my 'gifts' is the back moisturiser thing that I wanted in the first place.

When I tried to navigate off the I page it kept saying I would lose my free gifts (ugh which I didn't even want!!)

Finally get on to the next bit and it says, 'okay, now spend $20 to get your free gifts'

By this time I'm 40 minutes in and so fine. I choose something I kind of need and go to check out.

Turns out I get ONE of my free gifts (the crappy tshirt I don't even really want).

And now I've got a stupid lamp and a tshirt on their way to me. I've spent $20. And I didn't even manage to buy the back cream thing!! I'll get another of my 'free gifts' when I spend the next $15.

Entirely my own fault. I'm an idiot and I shouldn't be shopping at temu, especially when it outwits me.

My DH got horribly manipulated and bombarded by the hideous Temu. Ended up spending about £55, and got about £12 worth of tat and landfill in the post. Constant bombarding of ads, non-stop on his phone. It was dreadful. He was excited about it to start with, but not for long. He uninstalled the app after 2 weeks. They sell so much shit, and are really annoying.

Just uninstall the app @Rinceyourrice

The app is terrible. Use the desktop version. You don’t get the rubbish then.

See if you're in time to cancel the order

I nearly got suckered by this exact same thing.
I was scrolling through Facebook while watching TV and I clicked on a Temu ad for an advent calendar full of mini gnomes.
Why? Why did I do that?
I definitely do not want a gnome-filled advent calendar, I can assure you.
The website asked me to spin a wheel and I won six free gifts. I took ages choosing six prizes - good stuff that I might actually use like a juicer, a bundle of trainer socks, an extendable feather duster etc.
Then, and only then, it said I had to spend £30 to get my free prizes.
I was pissed off. I’m not spending £30 on Temu crap.
So - no freebies for me, sadly.

I'm sorry you had problems with the app. I am old so I always go for desktop versions where possible. as I hate those teeny weeny screens. If I must use an app I use a tablet. Yes I would emphasise to use the desktop version.

I wanted some plain strong metal hair pins about 8 ins long and found them on Temu. They were very cheap so I ordered 2 lots. It was £10 minimum order for the free shipping so I added in a couple of other cheap hair care items to make up the total. Items arrived within a week notified at every step. I was pleased with the quality of the items and the delivery. To be frank I had not expected much. No problems with customs as Temu charges the VAT up front and they came right through. I would buy from them again .

I think it’s just a really mixed bag. I bought some couch covers and some kitchen cupboard organisers that were spot on and have lasted really well.

I also ordered a different storage cube/bag I intended to use for the dogs’ towels and other bits and bobs. I wanted something that looked presentable so it could sit in the corner of the living room. Unfortunately, when it turned up it was so cheap and plasticky looking. I couldn’t be bothered trying to sort a return, so I’ve kept it and just hide it out of sight in the under stairs closet.

Temu is a complete wast of bandwidth and they are miss-selling by saying the gifts are free when you have to pay for them its like they grab the customers interest with free gifts that actually don't exist, they are using casino type gambling tactics used to tempt the customer into parting with their money..........When the item(s) arrive, they are not fit for purpose.

Far better to a have a few good quality items from good, decent sellers which last.

Avoid it like the plague.

I use the website not the app , so never bothered with the free gift thing . I would say you have to pick carefully and definitely look at reviews. Be aware Temu is like eBay , all different sellers under one umbrella. Anything I've had an issue with they have refunded in full and told me to keep the item . If the price goes down over the next 30 days you can apply for an account credit . My parcels are always on time but if they are late again they give you an account credit. Most of what I buy , I could purchase exactly the same elsewhere in the UK but the source of the items will still be the same , just at a higher price as someone else has imported them .

I started using temu after realising certain things I was buying from Amazon had been bought from there in the first place and marked up. I buy a lot of craft/hobby stuff.

For example I can get nice cross stitch kits from there for less than a fiver. I went to a craft fair a while back and the British kits of a similar theme were £40 and up. Sure they’ll be better quality but it’s a little evening hobby for me. I don’t need (and can’t really afford!) to spend £50 on one kit.

I never really understood the free gift thing and never got it to work so when stuff like that pops up on the app I just close it and buy the things I intended.

Temu is a terrible business model and ramps up the “make cheap, buy cheap, replace” mentality which is destroying the planet.

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 02/08/2026 10:11

I’ve actually had some lovely stuff from Temu over the years although I got sucked into the free gifts thing too. Ended up with one free item rather than six.
