Skin tag misery and anyone had one removed?

A few weeks ago I had a skin tag randomly appear underneath my eyebrow but not on the eyelid itself. It has turned whiter than my natural skin colour. I think it's related to hormones as I'm perimenopausal. I'm self conscious about it especially as the beauty technician who does my eyebrows commented on it thinking it was a sore. Then recently I met up with three different friends at different times and I'm not kidding but all three asked what was wrong with my eye? To make matters worse I think another one is growing on the other side of my face, similar place under the other brow. I'm starting to feel really down about it. I'm not vain, far from it as I know I'm not the prettiest person especially not in my late 40s but I don't want skin tags making me look even worse!

I'm wondering if anyone has had these, especially in peri, and/or has anyone had one removed and what was that like and how much did it cost?

Thanks!

I have had these removed using electrolysis.

Error404FucksNotFound · 01/08/2026 21:20

The tiny little ones?
I tie string round them and they fall off after a few days.
Someone I know cuts hers off with nail clippers! Not sure I'm brave enough for that!

Skin tags can be associated with diabetes so worth checking blood sugars too.

I had mine removed with Cryotherapy. It really hurt! It was a fair few years ago so techniques may have improved.

I had tonnes post pregnancy i got them all frozen

It took 10 mins not v painful

Skintagmisery · 01/08/2026 21:26

Thanks all. Is it expensive to get them removed? I know the nhs won't do it.

I could try tying string around it first I suppose.

Prediabetes is an issue unfortunately.

I’ve done nail clippers or twist and pull but not on my face to be fair

BauhausOfEliott · 01/08/2026 21:32

If they’re tiny they’re really easy to remove. They just freeze them and snip/scrape them off I think. Loads of cosmetic skin clinics do it, and even some pharmacies have clinics with that service.

I get them all the time (hypothyroid and insulin resistant) - I pay £50 occasionally to have Sterex - form of electrolysis I think - to have 30 mins of treatment to remove skin tags, moles, warts, blood spots etc. Cheap and easy. And no more tags.

I had what was a small spot just at the bottom of my eye brow for several years - then it suddenly started changing in size, colour and texture and continued to change from red to brown and back, and from soft to crusty and back, and it did grow and puff up and then seem to dry out and become flatter again but it was only ever 4-5mm in diameter although it was only 1-2mm for years and invisible under my eyebrow. I was surprised how much it changed in a matter of a few weeks. I went to my GP and they had a specialist skin clinic that would have a look at this. It did take nearly 2 months to get seen but they used a spray can of Nitrogen - it was 2 squirts, each lasting about 10s and it was just of the edge of being painful in the last second but honestly nothing worse than an ice cream or cold milk headache for a few seconds. It scabbed over quickly and dropped off in about 2-3 days. I'm about 2 months on now and nothing has grown back and there's no sign of anything ever having been there unless you look really closely.

Well this is funny but i was rubbing my eye and the offending tag dropped off! I suddenly realised it had gone! At least it saves me the money. I will see what happens with the other one which is tiny at the moment.

I used this when I had a skin tag appear just under my eye. Put a band on when I wasn’t going to be going out or anywhere special. Took about 4-5 days to drop off.

I’ve never had one in my face.

tiny ones that I catch quickly, I have a very tiny pair of very sharp scissors. I sterilize them and the spot and then just chop it off. Most of the time it doesn’t even bleed.

larger ones get removed by professionals. I also had a whole batch pop up once almost overnight. They were small and I also had those removed. My derm referred me to her in-house esthetician who somewhat ironically used tiny scissors to take them off, but she had a much better angle.

im not pre-diabetic, i just have incredibly sensitive skin. A tiny bit of friction and it grows funny. It’s actually the least of the problems it causes me.

i don’t remember prices, probably because it’s never been particularly painful.
