Can I return an opened Apple Watch bought online from John Lewis?

i bought an apple watch ultra 3 from john lewis online, had it for two days and its literally hurting my wrist (and leaving a huge circle on my arm when i take it off) its way too big and heavy for me, i'm finding it very uncomfortable to wear and already finding myself taking it off instead of wearing it. i have tried different straps and also tried having the strap a little looser but its not helping.

would i be able to return it seeing as it has been opened and used? i'm guessing not. I have asked ai and got two different answers, the first said I can't as its opened, the second said i can as i bought it online etc

john lewis lve chat is down and i can't call them atm as at work

anyone know if i could return it?

Yes because you brought it online.

Distance selling regulations should apply if it was bought online.

No, she bought it online. Not brought.

Distance selling regulations should apply if it was bought online.

But distance selling regulations don't allow you to try things out for a few days then send it back.

OP, you'll need to check out JL T&Cs re returns.

Of course not. You’ve worn it. It’s not faulty. I used to have one and the genuine apple straps are so soft and it used to come with 2 length straps.

just managed to call them quickly, i can't get a return if it's been opened or set up, so i'm stuck with it, thanks for the replies anyway

No, as it had been opened and used x

Why didn’t you try one in-store before buying? It’s such an expensive item to take a punt on.

Funchythesnowwoman · 01/08/2026 13:16

Can you sell it?

JulietteHasAGun · 01/08/2026 13:16

You haven’t just opened it, youve used it. Set it up, potentially linked it to your Apple account, etc. I don’t think you can return it. I have one, don’t notice it. It’s not heavy. Can you try a different strap?

JulietteHasAGun · 01/08/2026 13:16

Xpost with your update. Try a different strap.

You can probably get about half it's purchase price if you sell it in nearly-new condition to one of the tech refurbishers like cex, backmarket, musicmagpie etc. The distance selling regulations don't apply once it's in a "used" condition and can't be resold as pristine.
