what shall I take and wear etc
pre op is Tuesday so can ask then but any good ideas?

assume I will wear loose trousers and a T-shirt to arrive and go home, gown in theater?? Then should I take some pyjamas for before I go home? I’ve only had one.

any hints and tips I’d be grateful

I had a day surgery last week, instructions said to bring a dressing down and slippers (I own neither) and took a giant tshirt and flip flops.
Didnt actually need anything, I took my clothes off and put the gown on for the surgery and then when I came round and they took me back to my room I got dressed back into normal clothes a bit later on and dh picked me up.
I was nil by mouth and wasn’t due in until midday, went down for my surgery at 3 and was back in my room by 7:30, home by 9:30 and hungry but felt very sick from the anaesthetic and morphine!
good luck, maybe have some ice lollies at home in the freezer ready for you.

You won't have time to wear pyjamas. A dressing gown is a good idea to wear down to the anaesthetic room as the hospital gown opens at the back. Something to do while you wait is a must, especially if you are nervous. Good luck.

Take a good book and something like an iPad or mini iPad, with earphones.

It’s still usually a good idea to pack some basics for overnight just in case even though it’s planned day case. I’d definitely have spare underwear just in case of any ‘accidents’ while you’re a bit dopey. Make sure you have paracetamol & ibuprofen (if you can take it) at home - you’ll get some stronger stuff too but some hospitals don’t provide the simple stuff. Ask about ‘sips til send’ and have a water bottle with you. Might also be an idea if whoever picks you up has a bucket or something you can be sick into just in case (sometimes it’s the driving that sets things off!).

This is all super thanks! Have a phone book and long charger and added water bottle and sick bag!

don’t own a dressing gown except a thick fleece zip oodie thpe thing which I don’t want in the hottest summer on record and no doubt the stifling ward. I may treat my self to a new summer one.

another daft question / what shall I wear? Comfy shorts and t shirt or joggers and t ahirt??

Don’t splash out on a dressing gown just for this of you wouldn’t ever use it again… they can give you 2 theatre gowns if you need it & just wear the top one like a dressing gown on the walk round to theatre.
