Allowable boys swimwear in French public pools

Can anyone tell me whether shorts style speedos (which look like cycling shorts) are allowed in French municipal/ public swimming pools, or only the classic "banana hammock" tiny speedo?

Taking teenagers on a city break and it's going to be hot weather. There are public outdoor pools but I know the boys won't be allowed in wearing regular baggy surf shorts - want to know whether buying the Speedo shorts is worthwhile (they would be too embarrassed to wear the tiny tight pants so public pools won't be an option if the tight but long style isn't allowed - which is fine, I'd just like to know)!

The shorts-style should be fine but they have to be tight.

Jammers are the cycling shorts style and we’ve been ok with those and the slightly shorter tight trunks ones like Daniel Craig in James Bond.

Thank you so much for replying. Big city public pools won't expect swimming caps these days will they?
I've been looking at reviews of the pools and they're somewhat unintentionally hilarious in terms of the disgruntled men who don't think they should have to follow local rules because they were tourists - I don't see any mention of swimming caps though, only the shorts (which I subconsciously knew but had almost forgotten about).

Unlike the tight shorts rule which is national, swim caps wearing is covered by local bye-laws and varies from region to region. Most pools that require them to be worn sell them at the admission desk.

Have a nice holiday OP x.

My boys use short style but they need to be tight not board shorts so proper swimming trunks. Our local pool only requires hats in the off season so summer no hats required but not all pools may be the same.

Apologies to all posting on here because l really don’t want to derail this thread, but what was the logic in the summer/winter swim hat rule?
