My son's Nationwide account was originally opened when he was 7, and he was given the title 'Master'. I vaguely remember them asking us whether we preferred Master or Mr - we thought Master would help to distinguish from DH, who has the same initial.
However, he's now 22, his account has morphed from a Junior account, to Student, to Graduate, but he still has the Master title. He's tried changing it online, over the phone, and by writing to them, but was told he has to take ID to a branch (easier said than done when he has a busy life). It has never been a priority for him,so hasn't been done, but now he has applied for a mortgage as "Mr". He got an email today to say he will need to change his account to Master before tomorrow's online appointment or they won't be able to proceed.
Aibu to think they could have offered to update it automatically when he turned 18? Why make it so hard?
