What time would you get to airport for a 6am flight ?

We are travelling 3rd September from newcastle
We are travelling with cabin case only ,would you still get there for 3am ?
Or do you think 4am would be okay?
We won’t be getting breakfast
Just popping to boots for a meal deal
It says gate closes at 5.25am

Check what time security opens. I went uto Heathrow for 4am & discovered that I couldn't go through security until 4.30am. There was a huge queue but it soon disappeared when security opened.
I wouldn't have thought you'd need 3 hours at a regional airport, but I don't know Newcastle.

I would say 4am into the terminal for that, so if you have to park the car allow contingency

I don’t know Newcastle airport but for most UK airports I’d be there for 4am-ish.

I would go for 4am. I recently did that at Stansted and as it’s a cheap departure slot for the airlines it was packed - it took us an hour to get through security. With 2 hours you will still have plenty of time and will not be stressed about being late.

We had a 6am flight from Luton last year, we got there at 3.45am , it was heaving, ive literally never seen it so busy but I dont remember queuing or being delayed so 4am would have been fine

I would probably stay at an airport hotel the night before.

Also I’d your flying with ba from Newcastle they recently made my husband check his hand luggage as it was a tiny wheeled bag (they were making everyone bar those with tier status check their cabin luggage) Mad dash to buy a rucksack from the shop when it opened at 5am and a very stressful start to his work trip.

Two hours before. Baggage Check in for most airlines don’t even open until 2 hours before the flight takes off.

Newcastle airport is small and quiet and September is after the main holiday season. I'd plan to be walking into the terminal by 4.30 am. Why would you need to be there at 3 am, will it even be open then?

I would allow for plenty of time to drive there and park the car in case there's delays there unless I lived 30 mins or less from the airport and knew the parking process was efficient.

We have booked a hotel for the night before so it’s a two minute walk

I recently flew from Manchester to Amsterdam and as a pp said, check in only opened 2 hours before. So there is literally no point in getting there any earlier

We stayed at the Doubletree Hilton , just a few minutes walk from Newcastle Airport, we were due to fly at 6am, and got into the airport for 4am, and had plenty of time to eat, go through security etc.

With cabin bags only I’d expect not leaving hotel even until 0430 would still give ample time.

you could also check how many early flights are departing that day. We normally fly from Stansted and 0540 to 07:00 is rammed with flights taking off. Newcastle should be far less busy.

We did a similar timed flight(gdansk by any chance) in June. There before 4 because dh always frets about traffic. We ended up in the car park miles away.And we still had stacks of time. Security was a breeze.Did boots, a breakfast coffee and still had a bit of a wait. September should be similar.

I wouldn’t want to be responsible for you missing your flight but 4 am sounds OK to me. As a negative it’s school holidays and the busiest time, but you won’t have to factor in baggage drop. I don’t know Newcastle airport though. Do they have the new scanners so there’s no faffing with taking liquids and electronics from your bag? Is fast track possible ?

I took a 6am flight from Birmingham last week. No luggage to check in and stayed in a hotel 2mins walk away. We set our alarm for 4am, in terminal for 4.10 and through security by 4.25. Could have had an extra 30mins in bed!

Two hours is fine. My DD flew to South America from Heathrow a couple weeks ago with a suitcase and she couldn’t check in online or the kiosk so had to wait in line and still it was fine getting there two and a half hours before flying time (they even left a few minutes early). She didn’t have a lot of time to browse once through security but she didn’t have to rush either.

Newcastle is really easy and quick to fly from not loads of walking to gates etc I think I would aim for 4-4:30 only thing that would make me say 4 rather than half past is that there are lots of early flights so security might be busy but it's our local airport, we fly from there lots and have never waited longer than 15/20mins

Oh and they have the new scanners so you don't have to take liquids out.

Even with long haul I have found two to two and half hours completely fine.
