Snoring man on ward. Feeling murderous.

DD is in hospital overnight with appendicitis. There is another parent on the ward snoring his head off, with no sign of it abating.

If I get through the night without doing murder, it’ll be a miracle.

Sending sympathy. Murder may be a bit OTT though...

Is your DD sleeping through it?

Please ask a nurse to give him a nudge it’s not fair at all.

The staff often have earplugs if you ask. But you have my sympathies. Tempting to give him a prod and wake him up!

Not really. I’ve persuaded her to put an audiobook on her headphones to see if that helps.

Really regret not asking DP to pack earplugs!

If he’s keeping your DD (an actual patient) awake you should nudge him awake and tell him to pack it in. If you don’t feel comfortable doing that you should ask a nurse to do it… your DD is unwell enough to be in hospital overnight so she is the one who needs the sleep.

Is he a parent? I’d be going to have words with the nurses.
Patients shouldn’t be disturbed by visitors.

I think it's just a case of some people snoring (women, too) and he has to be with his kid who is likely unwell given their admission. It might be his first rest for days depending on why they are admitted. In hospital wards, you have to share space with other people.

Honestly, I find in airplanes (never even mind hospitals!!) it's always men snoring. Never experienced a woman doing this. And it's really annoying. Sympathies

Anatomical differences.

There have been few times where I have been in a confined space with only women: jail and maternity wards. Snoring was a negative feature in both.

My friends say when I fall asleep on a flight I snore horrifically. It’s because I only snore when I’m bottom of the barrel exhausted (as do a lot of people). They’ve never woken me or I’d probably start crying tbh (because I’m exhausted!!) Op great he’s stopped, hope all works out ok for ye all x

I was snoring so loud while asleep when with my daughter in the children's A+E department that she recorded me on my phone.

I am female by the way. Snoring is not a man thing.

It may not be exclusively a man thing, but it's certainly predominantly so, with a prevalence 2 to 3 times higher than for women.

RTFT. OP stated clearly he's a visitor not a patient – a visitor keeping actual patients awake at that.

I’m assuming he’s a parent of a sick child on the children’s ward - as op is with her daughter… otherwise why is op there?!

I snore horrifically especially if I’m trying not to - I have tried to stop, I’ve lost weight, nose strips etc - my tonsils are just enormous- but not enormous enough for the nhs to remove them - I dread a situation where I can’t control where I sleep and hospital with a dc would be one of them. I know it’s awful for you too but he is not doing it to spite you

Is he wearing a pyjama type jacket or a garment where small balls (tennis) could be attached? It will stop him sleeping on his back as the vast majority of snoring is caused in this position. ask the nurse
