Are chalet bungalows hotter upstairs than a conventional 2 storey house with an attic?

The answer is bound to be depends...
Many of us have found over the last month or so, that the first floor of a house is appreciably warmer than downstairs if its really hot outside. Does the lack of attic space above the first floor of a chalet bungalow make this heat difference better or worse?

If the rooms are in the eaves, then yes as there is no gap between the roof and the ceiling. Our daughter had a room like this and it was boiling.

Depends- we have a French balcony in ours and a dormer window on the opposite wall so its lovely and cool with a through breeze.

Yes, heat is trapped upstairs. We have to open windows as soon as the sun goes down in ours to let it out.

Yes. I'm in the NE and we haven't had temperatures above about 28 this summer and they've been under 25 for the past month. I can keep downstairs in the mid 20s but on any hot sunny day, the bedrooms can easily reach 30, whatever I do. The walls get hot to touch.

High of 24 with cloud and a cool breeze, today and I had to open the bedroom window, this evening, as it was 26 up there. Can't open the windows on both sides because of the wind!

My friends live in a dormer bungalow and the upstairs rooms are unbearable in warm weather. They had aircon installed in the bedrooms.

That's really useful thanks. We're looking to downsize and there are a lot of chalet bungalows in our local area which are about the right size for us.
I'm pretty determined to install AC in our bedroom whatever we buy.
