So I went and ordered a frappe today

No idea what it was. I wanted an iced latte but Mcdonalds said they didnt do them any more. I was thirsty and hot and had a long drive and needed something quick

So I see this thing called a frappe. I think well that sounds like a latte and it looks summery.

I say to her 'whats a frappe' and she says 'yeah, what is a frappe?' She then goes quiet for a bit and says its a mixture between a slushie and a milkshake, sort of.

I think well that sounds about right

Then this thing arrives, tasteless, far too cold and gave me a headache.

I wont order another one. For some reason I really thought it was similar to an iced coffee.

But now I know.

Every day is a learning day.

Thank you @EmailsaysOOO I didn’t think you sounded judgemental, just wanted to say it’s definitely a thing for a lot of people! Over time issues with DH family have resolved to a point where we see them occasionally and it’s fine for all of us so things can change, but only if the other people finally see how they were making everyone else around around them suffer with their actions.

Bubble tea is the weirdest, and most unpleasant drink I’ve ever had.

I really like bubble tea. Had my first one in 2017 before they got trendy. 😁 I buy the kits to make them at home.

I drink Diet Coke and the main nasty surprise I get is that so many pubs etc think it's OK to just give you Coke Zero instead without saying anything, nasty horrible stuff.

I didn't know you could get bubble tea warm, I would have assumed the bubbles would melt.

The popping boba I'm not sure about, but the tapioca pearls you can put in hot tea. They're made out of a sort of dough and are chewy.

Aren’t the bubbles tapioca or something? They wouldn’t melt - I remember eating tapioca putting as a kid and the tapioca had been sitting in milk in the oven for ages.

Some are tapioca, some are popping boba which come in different fruity flavours, or you can have jelly shapes as well. I can't explain how they make popping boba, other than witchcraft. (It's science/chemistry really.) 😁

Teen DD drinks matcha -which i dont entirely know what it is (it seems expensive) and iced coffees that she makes herself at home (I understand those) and water.

I only drink water squash or coke, and the only nasty surprise you get is if you order a coke and they ask if pepsi is OK!

Pepsi is absolutely NOT ok! 😟

I always thought it was iced coffee! What's a frappucino? Is that coffee?

BillieWiper · 31/07/2026 13:58

I remember when I first tried a frappucino as they were called back then, in about 2000. OMG I was in heaven!

Recently they are usually well stingey with the flavour syrups though. And I was upsold on whipped cream when it always used to be included in the price?

For me it would be driving. I've never done it before in my life! Neither of my parents drove. I think I'd be awful at it and can't afford a car so I'll stick with Uber!

Is that strange? I probably drink a pint of water maximum during the day (no other drinks)

Are you a camel???
In summer I drink about 2 litres of water a day + tea, coffee juice etc otherwise I feel tired and sluggish.

Do you not drink any water at all, then?

This is a very interesting thread.

I don’t drink water either, unless it’s flavoured.

I’m not getting into the conversation about frappes, as I don’t like milk or cream, or anything dairy really.

I prefer to drink Apple Juice, Ribena or Pepsi.

clearlyy · 31/07/2026 14:42

Oh mate this happened to me once. Got a frappe without knowing what it is, and I’ve never had headache like it. Far far far too cold.
