So I went and ordered a frappe today

No idea what it was. I wanted an iced latte but Mcdonalds said they didnt do them any more. I was thirsty and hot and had a long drive and needed something quick

So I see this thing called a frappe. I think well that sounds like a latte and it looks summery.

I say to her 'whats a frappe' and she says 'yeah, what is a frappe?' She then goes quiet for a bit and says its a mixture between a slushie and a milkshake, sort of.

I think well that sounds about right

Then this thing arrives, tasteless, far too cold and gave me a headache.

I wont order another one. For some reason I really thought it was similar to an iced coffee.

But now I know.

Every day is a learning day.

Another one who didn't know, I've never dared try them in case they have syrups in, I hate sweetened coffees. Sounds like I am doing the right thing sticking to iced latte.

Acai is a berry from... Brazil? It has anti-oxidants, which are a good thing 🤓

I think a frappe is just a blended ice drink these days, I don't think they all have coffee in. Like a milkshake but blended with ice.

OMG. Well, I guess it’s not that common in the UK. Depending where you are, the server is right - it’s like an iced coffee but it’s blended, and a milkshake has ice cream or is at least a thick creamy drink. But for me growing up in New England, frappes have ice cream in them, but a milkshake doesn’t.

I don’t know what a frappe is either. I know it’s like a cold coffee but that’s it.

Starbucks do frappucinos, which is a trademark. These are all blended milky ice drinks, they dont all contain coffee, the chocolate one doesnt. I think other places like mcdonalds/costa use the word frappe because they can't use frappucino, and are essentially copying Starbucks. I'm not sure there's a very strong definition of a frappe though

Teen DD drinks matcha -which i dont entirely know what it is (it seems expensive) and iced coffees that she makes herself at home (I understand those) and water.

I only drink water squash or coke, and the only nasty surprise you get is if you order a coke and they ask if pepsi is OK!

In Costa you can have a frappe with or without coffee, I hate coffee so have without. It’s basically milk with ice bender and then a flavour syrup added.

Costa do frappe with coffee, you just ask for say “a salted caramel frappe with coffee”
Starbucks do Frappuccino and same as Costa, some have coffee and some don’t. You can always look up the menu online. They will usually ask “is that coffee or cream?” And you pick coffee unless you want a milkshake!

You can get hot bubble tea as well. I like making the brown sugar milk tea hot, it's yummy. 😊

In Greece frappes are definitely Nescafe shaken up with ice (is there milk? Possibly, I never had one as I don't like them, but my Greek ex used to drink them all the time).

Certainly no cream/ caramel sauce, but the Brits and Americans are terrible for awful knock offs of other cultures' drinks (looking at you "chai" "latte" with your sad little scoop of flavouring powder out of a drum, 10x the price and a tenth of the deliciousness of anything you'd find in India 🙄).

Where I live a frappe is like a smoothie, with fruit and ice, sometimes milk. 🤷‍♀️

Yesterday I had a brown sugar shaken chilled espresso with oat milk from Maccas (in Sydney) and it was delicious. It’s part of a new range of drinks they have. I’m not a frappe person either.

Well at the weekend I had an iced latte from some tiny cafe, bit run down, on the sea front and she said did I want the 'special' which was made with full cream Guernsey milk, which I did

It was fantastic. I keep hankering after something similar. Never tasted anything like it, it was lovely

I was told a frappe often contains coffee, but not always, depends on the flavour. So a fruit one probably wouldn't, but a chocolate one may well do. It doesn't help me know if they're safe to order though (coffee gives me migraines)!

I looked it up and the ones with a load of foamed milk or whipped cream on top are frappucinos. Which makes sense I guess

Exactly the same as me. I don't like cold drinks (unless it's my Friday night glass of red wine) and have always been a tea drinker.
I actually really dislike any fizzy drink and any synthetic drink and all of the flavoured waters leave a synthetic aftertaste and plain water is just not something I enjoy drinking.
Even when I was a baby and was coming off milk, my bottle/sippy cup always had tea in it.
I also heard that if you drink a really cold drink on a hot day, then your body works harder to regulate your temperature whereas if you drink a hot drink, it's easier on the body - not sure if that's actually true or just something my mum told me.

I expect a frappe coffee to be an iced coffee like you get in Greece. If I got some fruity abomination or anything with cream I'd be gutted

Lots of places give you the option. I had a warm one a couple of times.

I like Starbucks frappuccinos which is an iced coffee sundae in my eyes

Starbucks caramel Frappuccino is my go to summer drink when I’m feeling decadent 😋😋
