So I went and ordered a frappe today

No idea what it was. I wanted an iced latte but Mcdonalds said they didnt do them any more. I was thirsty and hot and had a long drive and needed something quick

So I see this thing called a frappe. I think well that sounds like a latte and it looks summery.

I say to her 'whats a frappe' and she says 'yeah, what is a frappe?' She then goes quiet for a bit and says its a mixture between a slushie and a milkshake, sort of.

I think well that sounds about right

Then this thing arrives, tasteless, far too cold and gave me a headache.

I wont order another one. For some reason I really thought it was similar to an iced coffee.

But now I know.

Every day is a learning day.

i really want one now!

I drink Diet Coke and the main nasty surprise I get is that so many pubs etc think it's OK to just give you Coke Zero instead without saying anything, nasty horrible stuff.

I didn't know you could get bubble tea warm, I would have assumed the bubbles would melt.

i drink Coke occasionally, some places only have Diet Coke, Coke Zero or Pepsi I don’t want that shit!

Aren’t the bubbles tapioca or something? They wouldn’t melt - I remember eating tapioca putting as a kid and the tapioca had been sitting in milk in the oven for ages.

All Ive managed today is 6 cups of tea, drinking cup number 6 now

Terrible stressful busy day again where I couldnt drink for long periods of time.

This reminds me of a delicious lime-flavoured milkshake I had many years ago in a similar-sounding seafront cafe. Went back a year or so later and they'd taken the lime ones off the menu🙁

Anyway, I managed to get up to 7.5 cups of tea and now on Aperol Spritz. I forgot to mention that I do actually drink some cold drinks. In the form of alcohol.

I rarely drink water. I don’t like sweet soft drinks , Just 5-10 cups of tea a day and wine at the weekend!

Nescafé frappés have been around for decades. Starbucks rebranded them as frappuccinos to avoid licensing issues. (And yes, the Greeks invented them in the 50s)

They were coffee, milk, sugar and ice shaken up until almost milkshake-thick.

Then Starbucks became more popular with teens who don't actually like coffee so they made coffee-free flavours like caramel, or fruit, or other such sweet stuff.

Starbucks sound outrageous to have ruined this then and caused such confusion. Look at us lot on this thread, we dont know if we're coming or going and its all their fault

No, it was a beach cafe on Hayling Island around twelve years ago. Just googled the Wimpy ones and they look divine🙂

I used to go there EVERY holiday when I was little. It was like my mum and dad didnt know anywhere else existed

My parents did the same with Dorset, though my elder siblings had a couple of Hayling Island holidays. After mum and dad died, my brother and I tracked down the exact house they'd all stayed in on HI around 50 years previously!

Thank you! A Greek frappe is an iced coffee, you can have it with just water or a mixture of milk and water. With or without sugar (sketo, metrio or glyko).

It's one of the most refreshing drinks you can have in the heat, it provides caffeine and hydrates you at the same time 😅 I have my own frappe machine/frother thing, it's quite an art to produce the perfect drink 😌

The Greeks and Cypriots take their frappes REALLY seriously - they can drive, smoke a cigarette and make a phonecall without spilling a drop 😂

Bubble tea is the weirdest, and most unpleasant drink I’ve ever had.

My Grandad always said a strong cup of tea cools you down better than a cold drink!

I've no idea what you're all on about. I'm stuck in the US a lifetime ago (at least 30 years) when I was persuaded to have an iced tea. I'm not sure what I expected but it certainly wasn't just a glass of cold tea with ice cubes in it. I didn't want anything quite so literal.

I don't drink coffee so have no clue what are any of Americano, a Cappuchino, a Latte, a Frappe... these are words that just pass me by.

I do drink tea & cousins were amused I didn't know what a ... chai tea was? three yrs ago. I also don't go to cafes much anyway. I have forgotten what a chai tea is now, the information wasn't worth commiting since doubted that I'd end up ordering one soon again anyway (and I haven't)

"Chai tea" is funny because it's literally tea tea. Like Dutch people calling a style of rice "nasi rice" (literally rice rice). Chai is just an Indian style of making tea- it is really nice though (tea with cardamon and sugar and milk basically.)

Going not contact. NC .I've never needed to do this..Not sure how common it is generally in real life. Perhaps I'm lucky/ privileged/ other term..Just haven't been in a situation where the only solution was to cut off a relative. Charmed life? gawd knows

I think it’s very common in real life, I know several people who have had to cut contact, or go very minimal contact, with family members, DH included. I come from a lovely family but I’ve seen other families in action and some are just toxic horrible people that bring nothing to your life. Sometimes it’s years and years of shitty behaviour from those people that eventually causes people to crack.

Is that how you spell it (segue)? I always assumed it was segway like the electric scooter thing?

Here I order an iced mocha - the addition of chocolate to the coffee makes it sweet but not too sweet.

@SilverPink yes I wasn't meaning to sound judgemental. I'm sure people aren't doing it without good cause. I just don't think I know anyone who's had to do it..
