How can we find a Crown Court date and magistrates outcome?

A male friend of a female friend has been in court over some child sex type allegation. There is gossip on Facebook by a vigilante group, prompting local rumours. The only certainties are a case number, recent Magistrates Court dates, and that it's been sent up to the Crown Court.

How can we find the Crown Court date in advance, and the outcome of the Magistrates Court hearing(s)? Web searches don't show these things.

Contact the relevant court office for information. The information they give you (unless the case is ended) will be limited because of contempt rules and reporting restrictions. You will be able to find out if the magistrates have referred the case up to Crown Court, for example but would then have to speak to that court for listing information

My friend phoned the Magistrates Court. All they would tell her was that it had been passed to the Crown Court. No indication of what happened in the Magistrates.

The Crown Court only makes listings available the previous afternoon. It's very awkward checking the court list every afternoon, not even knowing which week or month the case might come up.

People involved in the case must be given the date a long way in advance. Can't we get that, even as a provisional date?

There may be reporting restrictions if a minor is involved.

The outcome of the magistrates is that it has been committed to Crown. Do you know if he was bailed?

If it's going to trial then it will be a while before anything substantial happens.
It will be listed for a plea and trial preparation hearing which likely won't be of much interest. He will just give his plea and then they will decide on stage dates and book a trial in.

He is on bail. We don't know how he pleaded or whether there was a mags court trial.

If it's been sent to Crown then there has not been a trial in the magistrates court.

He's either pled guilty and it has been sent to Crown for sentencing
Or he's pled not guilty and it's been sent up for trial.
