I need hope - redundancy

StepAwayFromGoogling · Today 11:00

I've been made redundant from a job I absolutely love and I'm devastated. It's been 10 days since I found out and today is a day when I can't stop crying and thinking about everything I'm going to lose. The reality is that I'm unlikely to get a job that pays as well and I've been there for 13 years so it's like my second home, peculiar as that sounds. I have to stay until March to get my redundancy payout so it feels even more humiliating to have to keep going in day after day. It's only me leaving. Just looking for stories of hope, really, from people who have been through this and have had a happy ending.

Oh, that's tough. Is there any chance that another role within the company could come up before March that you could be relevant for or are you very niche?

You need to look at this as an opportunity and not a threat. You’ve been there 13 years so will get a reasonable payout and you have 8 months to decide what you would like to do now and start job hunting. I have been in your position and it was horrible but in the end it all came out ok. Good luck.

Why do you need to stay until March

trainkeepsgoing · Today 11:38

You’re at the hardest stage of the grieve/change process. It will get easier and come March you’ll have had lots of time to explore what to do next (and I would hope winding down), with a decent pay out. Or as a PP said, another role at the company could come up in that time and you’ll be prioritised if you meet the role criteria, good luck!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Other roles at my level might come up, but what I do is very niche (to quote a PP) and I love what I do so would like to stay in it. I'm hoping it gets easier, I'm a mess today. Thankfully working from home but have spent all morning crying.
