Colonoscopy prep question

Apologies if this is completely daft, but:
I’m booked for my first colonoscopy (after having bowel changes for several mknths.) I’m aware I’ve got to drink the laxative and it tastes awful and I need to stay near the loo whilst I’m using it. But how long does the shit your brains out part last? I have to travel the next day to get to the actual colonoscopy appointment, normally I’d take the tube, but will I still be exploding with poo the following day? Do I need an adult nappy for getting to the appointment? Is it better to get in a cab? I will be having sedation so we’ll take a cab home, but money is tight so if I can save on the fare going to the appointment I’d prefer to do so! (Of course not keen on shitting myself in the tube either!)

I’ve had several and never needed the loo on the journey. That was even when my appointment was brought forward by several hours on the morning of the appointment, so technically I was late with the prep.

I don’t mind the preparation. I stayed in a room near the loo, had plenty of time to get there every time I felt the need, and it was all relatively painless when compared with some of my bathroom visits.

They time it so that the actual pooping should stop a few hours before your appointment - you’ll be empty. (Wouldn’t be much good if you were still pooping while they have the scope up there).

For me the worst of the shitting was over after an couple of hours. After that it was just the odd bit of diarrhoea every now and then and I managed to sleep ok over night.

DH didn’t have any toilet issues, he only went twice after the laxative. He did prepare by eating very very little for about 5 days before the laxative.

I think the instructions say start preparing 3 days before, no seeds, no dark colouring like beetroot juice, light meals etc.

For me I was emptied out the night before and slept fine. No issues getting to the appointment (30 mins).

Sorry, you can't say. It varies person by person. I'd prepare for the worst but hope for the best!

Thanks all, @TremendousThirst that makes a lot of sense!
I reckon I’ll see how the evening before goes and plan on the morning of whether to tune or cab it. Thanks again.

I had one today … was able to go on the tube (30 min journey) and even though I had sedation I was absolutely fine afterwards and was able to go back home on the tube having also thought I would need to take an uber!

I went on a low fibre diet for 5 days and then a liquid diet for 2 days before the procedure which I think really helped. I also started the medication an hour earlier than they said to make sure I was cleared out before I needed to travel. The doctor highly commended me on my prep 😂

Dont bother wiping and getting off the loo. I sat there for three hours.
