Smelly sandals

I have 3 pairs of Gabor Lanzarote sandals, all in perfectly good condition, except that the inner soles smell. Badly. So bad I had to move them into another room last night as I could smell them in my bedroom. I have had this problem with past pairs and threw them away as I couldn’t get rid of the odour, even though the tops of the shoes were perfect. It seemed such a waste of money! Yes, I wash my feet every morning and evening. I have tried cleaning with washing liquid and toothbrush. I have sprayed with shoe deodorant. I have tried bicarbonate of soda. Does anyone have a miracle solution I haven’t considered?? I’m sat here about to buy another new pair and fear they will go the same way as all the others….

Use foot deodorant on your feet to stop the smell in the first place, not as a way to stop the smell once the sweat is already in them

I get this too, it’s so bad. I’ve found nothing works, I just end up buying new sandals. Would also love to find out if anyone has found a solution.

Well the smell is bacteria so how about cleaning it with laundry sanitiser? Got to be worth a try.

I use foot spray from Savers every time I put my feet in a pair of shoes. They never smell. My horsey trainers smell of horse wee as I muck ouut in them but a quick wash in the machine makes them smell better.

When you get them new, stick insoles inside which you can then either wash or replace. I do this with my orthotics and I have fresh sandals whenever I want. I even wash the orthotics and they're fine. Stick down with gorilla tape.

I put mine through the washing machine and then out in the sun to dry. A bit of sun also works well for smelly trainers.

I have cleaned the inside soles with Nikwax deodorising cleaner, left them overnight and have now soaked them in Dettol laundry sanitizer - fingers crossed this works. Otherwise it’s the bin again ☹️.
