Took my car for it's MOT. Opted to wait, wish I hadn't as it took 3 hours

Went to the garden centre and bought bark chippings

About to tidy the airing cupboard. It just has stuff rammed in all over 😩

Airing cupboard is now tidy!

I've also put away the duvet from our bed that was discarded in June and has been hanging over the banister ever since (we're just sleeping under the empty cover)

And put away a load of towels. Having a cup of tea as reward

Dentist, optician, smear test and about to book a podiatrist appointment. Once the medical stuff is done, I’ve got the shed and garage to sort out. Might get my nails done after that!

Rocknrollstar · 27/07/2026 16:08

No longer a teacher but I remember the holidays as being a merry go round of appointments - hair, eyes, teeth- play dates and shopping for uniform and shoes. We’d usually manage a couple of weeks away too.

LividSummery · 27/07/2026 16:10

Don't mean to boast but I've emptied the washing machine filter and cleaned the dishwasher.

Can I be fast tracked to leadership instead?

iCod · 27/07/2026 20:45

Obviously, but only if you never do any of this stuff again and just sit in your office

Good idea for a thread!

Today I've had an eye test. Inspired by this thread, I've also tidied the towels in the linen cupboard and topped up salt/rinse aid in dishwasher.

Haircut is booked for Friday.

I need inspiration for shit jobs to do today. Just sitting about watching tv in my dressing gown so far!

PensionPuzzle · 28/07/2026 10:49

De-scaled the coffee machine. Started my tip run tally.

Cherrycolacubes · 28/07/2026 11:00

Went through 2 Kallax cubes of doom, shuffled things around and put everything back in them again. Found a glue stick and half a pack of Post-Its.

Not a teacher (all of the wine and thanks to my daughter's teacher a saint without an halo if you ask me) but I do work term time only.
Everybody at work thought I was finishing for a brilliant time off of relaxation and pleasure.
So far
Tidied the house at minimum of eleven times.
Answered 30 million questions (lots I admit I didn't even know myself)
And checked my calender for my September countdown.
This afternoon I am taking my daughter to her grandma's and going to tackle the back garden.

TheFallenMadonna · 28/07/2026 11:09

Unusually I have booked myself to be away for 29 days over the holiday (brief return for results day...). My house will never recover. I will get to the having everything out to sort stage and not the putting it all back stage.

Cherrysoup · 28/07/2026 12:38

Scrubbed the kitchen floor, I will never have lvt fitted again! Done the cleaning products into boxes thing and re-packed the utility room cupboards. Lifted and hoovered all the dog beds. Damp dusted the living room surfaces/furniture. Washed the windows. Scrubbed the lounge floor tiles. Painted my nails-pointless, did it last night and they’re already wrecked because I’m so hard on my hands.

QueenStevie · 28/07/2026 12:44

Just cleaned out my wardrobes. Got three bags for the charity shop and a bag for the bin. I am now very organised! I wonder how long that will last???

And how long will I drive around with the bags in my boot before they actually reach the charity shop?!

iCod · 28/07/2026 13:28

Bloody hell @Cherrysoup i've been to the gym and been kind to a friend today.
need to iron for my holiday and get all my miniatures of stuff out and sorted

Optician
Dentist and hygienist
GP to have a mole checked
Lots of yoga and pilates classes
Harvested peas and garlic, planted rainbow chard and beetroot.
Currently cooking and filling the freezer, so far a spicy pork and pepper stew, mixed bean curry and some wholemeal wraps.
Also made some pickles and kimchi.

Bliss!

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 28/07/2026 17:24

Tidied the utility room, organised the cupboard under the sink, started a pile for the tip.

I now have a box of stuff that belongs in other places and a load of coats to wash 😭

declutteringonedayatatime · 28/07/2026 17:38

I work in a school too but not as a teacher. Am I able to contribute to the thread?

iCod · 28/07/2026 17:38

Thank you. Hope it doesn't get pulled off and thrown at me 😂.

I was on holiday last week so am trying to get motivated to do some house stuff. I did wash the bed sheets and dry them on the line today so that is a start.

Palpna · 28/07/2026 19:12

Made 8 xJars of rhubarb chutney
Cleared and emptied garden shed
tip run
deep cleaned top shelf of fridge ( usually can’t reach don’t care )

Palpna · 28/07/2026 19:43

Spent far too much time on Mumsnet

I know off topic but was anyone exhausted for the full first week off? For reference I am a fit person with no illnesses.
