Stuck in a rut, advice?

Stuck in a rut - I’m super unhappy but not sure how to move forward. I love my career/field but the team I am in right now is a v poor environment and it’s totally taking over my life. I earn about £70k which is ok for the city I’m in, but to move back to where I used to live (London / near London) I’d probably need to earn more to be able to comfortably afford my own place & same level of independence.

I have my own home here but I hate the area, don’t even like going on walks etc. it’s an undesirable part of England and what initially attracted me to it has slowly disappeared over the last few years. I’ve had attempted break ins etc so just don’t feel totally safe.

I’m currently in an ongoing interview process, 3rd stage, for a senior role in London within the salary bracket I’m aiming for. If I get it, totally solves my biggest problems as would allow me to leave. But, I’m totally exhausted and drained with work. Just looking for advice from anyone who’s been through similar and came out the other end.

The employer that I’m interviewing with asked me to prepare a presentation for the final interview to basically sell my skills to their director team, and it seems like a load of faff!

I wonder whether you might be happier moving to a nicer part of the country and sacrificing the high salary.

I’m really wanting to move to a nicer part of the country. Just even being able to go for a walk or visit a museum, the little things that I can’t really do here!

that was what I was aiming for near London / London.

the field I work in, isn’t really popular in other areas (data science).

for what it’s worth it’s not the salary that’s the issue per se, it’s just a poor team. It’s not like a stressful workload or pressure etc, just a lot of infighting and managing difficult personalities
