Iodine treatment for thyroid

I've got thyroid issues.mine is too much. Has he said everybody had the iodine liquid treatment?Because i've read online that if you have it , you have to stay away from people for about three weeks and can't use public transport. This is not\n An issue at home because I don't live with anyone but I don't want to be isolated for 3 weeks. When I had to be isolated for COVID for a week that was bad enough, but 3 weeks I don't think I could cope with that.

I had radioiodine treatment for thyroid cancer, originally they told me I would need to stay away from my daughter (she was 2) for around a week but they checked my radioactivity after 4 days and said I was ok to see her again. I ended up waiting a couple more days anyway because I was scared of exposing her but it was still less than a week. The treatment you are asking about sounds a bit different in that I took a tablet, not a liquid, but the doctors treating you will be able to give you a timescale so you can decide once they've given you all the relevant information. My partner had it. He went to work fine but we couldn't share a bed for a certain time and I remember he had to be careful when using the loo.
He has ended up underactive though now which is quite common

It's prolonged close contact you need to avoid for the first few days. Maybe longer for children and pregnant women. I would have thought that after a few days you could go out for walks as long as you don't use public transport.

I had to abstain from work for 14 days as it was a female dominated office with lots of women of child bearing age, hospital advised as some women may not know about, or have announced, a pregnancy it was prudent to avoid. They provided a sick line.

DH drove me home but I sat in the back and slept in another room. We only had one bathroom at the time so I had separate towels etc and wiped the loo seat down with Flash every time for about a week.

I had a sore neck for a few days, and became underactive several months later.

Has your doctor actually suggested you have that treatment?

I dont live with anyone and dont have a partner and I think i am just jumping the gun. My thyroid was being perfectly managed for years on thyroxine and suddenly it went over. They changed me dose and gave ne a blood test but it was still over. They changed it again and still too high. Its been changed again and im due a blood test in about 2 weeks. I suspect it will still be over because by now I should be seeing some improvement in my symptoms and im not. I see the Gp again in 2 days a d will have to say I feel no better. Im getting daily headaches sometimes twice a day palpitationand shortness of breath. There are obe or two days when i dont have these symptoms and then they come back. Ive had to give up my fitness class which I love as its too strenuous I also can't sing as it makes ne too breathless. Yesterday I went supermarket shopping which left me exhausted and I had to sleep for 3 hours. Im going to ask for an iron blood test as I do get low iron which makes me tired.

Ive got a holiday booked for November and want to be ok for that

I was kept in hospital for a week until the radioactivity reached lower levels. Was told not to share a toilet on discharge afterwards. No mention of public transport.

Im looking good forward to my check up with my GP tomorrow because it's got to the stage where going from sitting to standing lives me quite out of breath

when you say over do you mean your TSH / T4 levels?

Are they checking for anything else?

My friend who is a nurse runs a blood pressure clinic on a voluntary basis and I had my blood pressure taken. My blood pressure is normally spot on but I wasdehydrated so it was low. That was easily rectified by drinking some water. I dint think they are looking for anything else. Im pretty healthy on the whole.. a friend of mine has IBS and chronic arthritis

I had the radioactive iodine pill a few years ago. Had to stay away from my children and other people for a couple of weeks. I waited at the bottom of the road when picking my children up from school. Good luck OP x

I know they keep changing my thyroxine levels depending on those numbers. It’s v annoying.
