Did anybody else on here go to the Blackheath common festival today? Terrible

With every ticket you get a voucher containing the price of said ticket, to be used on the food stalls and rides.

The vendors and ride operators (hired by the event company) decided they didn't want to accept the vouchers at all so everything had to be paid for out of pocket, card only no cash.

£3.50 for a small bottle of warm water from a Lidl multipack with 'not to be sold separately' on it.

The food we bought and were hugely overcharged for from the Gyros van was awful.

DH went white when he was charged £31 for 4 chicken nuggets and chips.

We, along with many others, complained to the owner who seemed genuinely upset. He hired the vendors in good faith, paid them fairly and they screwed him over by deciding on the day not to accept the vouchers they'd been paid to accept.

We ended up spending a small fortune to do the bare minimum (a couple of rides and the shit food) so the kids got something out of the day but it was absolutely pants.

How can the vendors get away with doing that?!

Review it honestly and hopefully they won't get further bookings.

MagicThanks · 26/07/2026 19:33

Oh we nearly did, glad we swerved it. That’s really crap and you should be partially refunded.

CalmDownAndChill · 26/07/2026 19:34

How did you pay for the tickets? You haven’t received what you paid for so should consider a Section 75 claim or a chargeback with your back. Keep any receipts and evidence that you have. You can use AI and it will tell you how to go about it.

Iriseee · 26/07/2026 19:35

How much was the ticket ?

When you say 4 chicken nuggets and chips do you mean 4 portions of chicken nuggets and chips or just 4 chicken nuggets and single portion of chips ?

friedaklein · 26/07/2026 19:38

Yes. I performed with my choir!
Total con job, I agree.
I only went to sing. Wasn't as bad two years ago.

The tickets were purchased online, the owner took our details and assured us we would be refunded. We will see. Thank you for the tip that's helpful.

RE the chicken nuggets and chips - two portions came to £31. The price is one thing but they were truly gross, so greasy.

One coke was £4.50.
Absolute crap.
Selling it as free is absolute misselling.

Killy113 · 26/07/2026 19:42

The price of the tickets, £10 each for the kids I believe. Will check what the adults ones cost.

On the way in there were banners on the fencing saying it was a free festival, there was nothing free about it.

I thought DH must have accidentally bought VIP tickets or else why would we have had to pay for something that was free?!

They call it "free" because you get these vouchers which you then spend inside, only nobody would accept the vouchers 🫠

Terrible behaviour of the vendors to go back on the agreement and some kind of complaint should be made. I doubt I’d bother personally, I’d vote with my feet and not return but you’re well within your rights to complain, I don’t know how or why that was allowed to carry on all day.
£31 for 2 lunches doesn’t seem ludicrous for that sort of event, I paid £21 for 2 crepes last year at a similar event, that felt like a rip off but it just is what it is and the dc wanted them. Bar prices are also an exceptional rip off but you have no choices to buy it elsewhere!

I didn't eat anything. I am currently having dinner in a nice Nepali restaurant nearby where 3 mains cost £40.

That’s disgusting and a rip off. My DB and his family go to Blackheath as their kids do various classes there and they like the bookshop there but I’ll warn them off this.
