I NEED dental implants, my teeth are too far gone now. I'm only in my 30's but always had issues with my teeth, then after 2 pregnancies they went from bad to worse and it's got to the point where there's no coming back,.

its mainly my top row of teeth, i only have 7 teeth at the top and 3 of them are filled as it is, i've tried dentures but I have a bad time with them due to them just making me gag all the time.

I feel like my only option is an implant on the top. How much did it roughly (as i know it can slightly vary) cost you to have a top set of implants? what was the recovery time? And can you finance it?

Have you discussed it with a dentist and did they say your bone is strong enough for an implant?

If not you may have to have a bone graft and that'll push the price up a lot.

And also, what were the issues that made your teeth like this to begin with?

This could also make a difference to whether you're suitable.

The cost is variable from everything I’ve been told, a lot depends on where you live, but are you wanting the existing teeth removed too and replaced?

that would be where a denture of implants are set onto 4 or 6 posts. That’s around 12k I believe. You’d need the extractions to heal before posts are inserted.

every dentist I’ve spoken to offers finance for implants. Obviously the more you pay up front the better, less to pay off as it’s only interest free for about a year.

you can get implant supported dentures too, they clip on and you can take off to clean.

the success from what I understand is down to a lot of factors such as gum health, how long ago you lost the teeth as you need decent bone to support the implants - this will affect cost too, better if you don’t need a bone graft. If you’ve got ongoing gum disease this needs to be resolved first. Implants are only as good as the mouth they’re going into.

the best place for advice might be the Reddit dental implants forum, I found people on there very helpful and honest about the pros and cons.

Hi OP. I haven’t had a full set but I am in the process of having 2 implants. I have had the screws put in, I am due a follow up in a month then at some point in the next 8 months I’ll have the teeth put on. It was £3,000 per tooth, plus £500 extra for a bone graft (this is a powder not an actual graft. I didn’t need a sinus lift but if I had that would have been £900. It is not cheap at all, my teeth are also quite wrecked so I will have composite bonding once the implants are done. That will be £3000 for 7 teeth.

most dentists have the prices on their website. I have taken a loan out to cover the costs, not something I wanted to do but I’ll hopefully have 40-odd years left if life and was sick of being ashamed of my teeth and terrified of the dentist

Mine was about £2000. If I’d needed a bone graft it would have been about another £450. It took several weeks to complete as you have the post fitted and then have to wait while the bone grows around it; I think that was about 6 weeks. I could have had a temporary crown but that would have been another couple of hundred pounds I think.
With your top teeth there has to be enough room so that the implant stem doesn’t go into your sinus cavity, and as a PP says, the bone that you already have needs to be suitable.

I am SE London and had 4 implants last year (2 next to each other, the other two separate) and they were £2.2k each +£450 for a bone graft on one. I had three done together and then the fourth a few months later (I knew the tooth needed to come out but implant dentist advised keeping it as long as possible to give the others a chance to settle and avoid too many gaps at once,).

I have an inherited enamel issue (couldn't tell you the name) but like I said, since having my pregnancies my teeth have just gone from bad to worse and I genuinely can't remember the last time I smiled. I try and talk with my mouth closed because of how horrendous they look.

I don't know what to do 😔 i can't afford much but I just want them sorting and feel implants is the only way to truly fix this long term!

But you'll need to get your bones checked by a dentist anyway, so probably best to chat about it with them when you do.

Omg, I had one and it was such a nightmare, took the best part of a year to complete the process and cost about £3500 - £4000 if I remember right. Including a bone graft and a specialist removal of the old tooth. I was thinking it’ll be great to just have all implants, but it’s not a simple process and to be taken lightly. This is why dentist always tell you to look after the teeth you have!

Good luck. If you want it bad enough you’ll make it happen! I just wanted to be honest as I felt I didn’t have any real stories when I went into it.

U should keep as much natural teeth you can. The cost depends on whether you want individual implants or fixed permanent or removable bridges. My sister got a cheap deal, but it failed in 10 yrs. Another choice is choose to have it done by students they would charge less

I had a similar problem. I had all mine out. Then I had 4 implants on the top and 2 at the bottom which is the minimum needed. I then had clip on dentures. It was the nearest I was going to get. They cost me 10k

Hi OP, I had to have all my remaining top teeth (7) out last year. I opted for full implants, cost £18,000. Implant retained dentures would have been about £12,000. I’m in Scotland. They offer full interest free payment if required. I didn’t need a bone graft.
Under full sedation, I had the teeth out, implants inserted and temporary dentures fixed on (all done at same time). The temporaries were on for 5 months. Now have full set of implants, absolutely no problems. I pay a monthly fee to cover all my cleaning and checkups.
To answer your other question, I didn’t really have any pain on the day, the following 2 days were pretty painful, ok after that. I play a wind instrument and I was back to full playing after 2 weeks!

Where are you op? Maybe we can recommend somewhere? If you are in East Anglia I would recommend my dentist.

I had one tooth done for 2k and I'm so so pleased. It was incredibly easy. I think it took about 3, 30inute sessions. One to remove the tooth, one to put the screw in, one to scan the area so they could produce the crown then 5 minutes to cement into place. Could use it immediately. I needed to wait 5 months for the bone to heal after the extraction and I think a couple of weeks for the tooth to be made so probably a 6 month process in all.

I very nearly got finance on it and would likely do that in future as our insurance no longer covers implants.

I have found my private dentist more affordable then my NHS dentist for this. My mum paid twice as much for a very similar treatment at her NHS dentist (with some private services) so worth asking around.

Lastly, please don't be ashamed. I stopped going to one of my dentists out of shame as my teeth were awful for my age (also thirties). But my new team were wonderful and my lovely dentist confessed that she actually loves people with 'bad' teeth as it's more interesting work for her and she loves transforming peoples mouths.

I had two molar implants done recently and paid just short of £5k. I winced at having to pretty much empty my savings account but they were worth every penny. They look and feel natural and it’s great to have more chewing surface back.

I had terrible top teeth and had lost some. I had what was left extracted and now have a full set on a bridge supported by 6 implants. It's called All on 6. I have never looked back. I can now eat anything (I could only eat soft food before). Had them done 5 years ago. I went to Evo Dental, who have clinics in London, Liverpool, leeds bristol. It cost about 10k and they do interest free credit.

This is virtually me but 20 years ago (wish I could play a wind instrument though 🤣) here to reassure that mine are still going strong. I went - and still go - to London Centre for Prosthodontics. The ongoing costs are hygienist every 3-4 months and review once a year. My dentist is brilliant at keeping further costs down, he says “leave well alone” and Plan B for me would be Implant Retained dentures.

This really if you have bad gum disease and bone loss they may not work

I don’t have any my husband has 2 they were about £2.5k each.
