Any ideas where to get work boots/ shoes from please?

I’ve no idea which board might be appropriate for this question, it’s not Style and Beauty!

I want to get some proper steel capped work boots - mainly for a volunteering thing where they’d sometimes be sensible but also for some gardening jobs I may need to start doing as DH has hurt himself, back issues etc.

But I’ve got awkward feet so need to try them on - I really can’t buy footwear on the internet. I’d probably need a women’s 4 or 5.

There’s a country store type place some miles up the road which might possibly do them but it’s not open today so I was wondering if there was anywhere else I could try. I’m in the Preston/lancaster area.

I would avoid steel toe caps unless it's absolutely necessary ( usually just in very heavy industrial work)

Instead go for composite toecap which is what most safety shoes and boots are nowadays.

Arco is probably one of the best places to go , you can try them on and the staff know their stuff when it comes to safety .
You can also get good quality 'grip' gloves ( gloves with a rubberised surface on palms and or fingers) they make gripping everything so much easier esp garden tools , rope , (and coffee cups 😄)
You can get eye protection for pesky thorns and branches
Knee pads for when your kneeling .

If they don't have your size In stock they will order it for you , there returns policy is good so you can take them back easily as long as you haven't worn them outside much ( at all )

Screw fix also sell them but don't often have them on display so look on line first for the style you want and check they are in stock the take down the catalogue number to give to the shop assistant and they will fetch them for you ti try on .

Shoe zone shops often have a limited range of safety shoes , the globetrotter or earthworks brands are both reasonably good for the price you pay.

Where ever you decide to get them from make sure the meet the European safety standards and the protection you need

I bought mine (for visiting oil tankers in port!) from Mole Valley Farmers. They looked like grey trainers. Agricultural suppliers or perhaps builders' merchants would be my starting point.

Take a couple of pairs of socks - I need to double sock if I wear steelies.

Skechers sell workwear shoes and boots with composite toe caps. There are also specialist websites. I've used them for work when we've needed to get safety shoes for new starters.
