I read her book. Brilliant.

I recently started following her on Instagram. Brilliant.

Grace, if you get any more Insta followers on the back of this thread in the next day or two you can thank me later by being my friend. Please.

Can you give more details on why you think she's brilliant? I only know her for reviews I don't read because they're about restaurants I'm never going to visit.

Love her - back to when she was on Big Brothers Little Brother back in the day (and I think her instagram is great, too).

She's funny. She's clever. She's very real. She's down to earth. She's the mate you want to sink a bottle of wine with and have a moan about life / men / your boss, and she'd totally get it. She moves in quite glamorous circles these days but stays really grounded and unaffected by all of that. She's a self starter from humble beginnings. Did I say she was funny? She is.

I don’t really know her other than weirdly in the last few days her Instagram ‘5 things I hate’ or whatever have been popping up in my feed. I find her abrasive!

Yes, I have to admit, she seems very likeable, and I enjoy listening to her, and watching her.

I'm not terribly keen on her, from what I've seen. She always looks miserable and stressed and unhappy.

What is brilliant about her? She's not someone I've ever warmed to.

100% agree, OP. Her book (the bit about her dad) made me cry so much I had to go upstairs and pretend to have a bath so DH didn’t see.

She’s hilarious in her writing style, super clever and very stylish.

I really miss her columns on TV shows. She used to make me cry laughing.

That's funny you should say 'abrasive' because when I first saw her on Masterchef as one of the guest critics a few years back I really didn't know what to make of her. I thought she looked like she'd be abrasive, if that makes sense. A bit intimidating. Anyway, over time I warmed to her and then I read her book so naturally I feel like I practically know her personally now 😂and I really like her. Not intimidating at all.

She has a roughly similar background and is roughly similar age to me, so lots of her cultural references I get because they are mine too.

And it was the '5 things I...' on Insta that prompted me to start this thread actually.

I think she’s fab too. She’s sharp and clever and funny and writes brilliantly. She’s in a long term relationship that she keeps completely out of the public eye. She was a carer for a long time too. And she’s much better on Masterchef than I thought she would be-which is a great relief to me!

I love her. Her book Hungry was excellent, not read anything else by her.

I've always thought she was a bit of a twat, in the Caitlin Moran/Sali Hughes vein.

I love her. But I like both of those writers too.

I haven’t read her book but I think she’s a great writer. During Covid instead of writing a restaurant review (because they were closed) she wrote a really moving piece about her family . I think her mum was very ill at the time or possibly just died. I should definitely get her book

I don't generally 'stan' on celebrities but totally agree about Grace...I have read her columns for years, and drool (or not, as the case may be) over her restaurant reviews. No punches are pulled ! I love that Northener aspect of her character, so down to earth, it chimes with other good friends from 'oop North', how withering they can be but so so funny. I think she saved Masterchef too personally. She's very 'put together' in an individual way, and I enjoy her diva-esque wave of the hands when she delivers a one liner and moves off. Must check out her books now.....

Caitlin Moran gets on my nerves with her face pulling and endless Wolvo poverty bleating (although I did enjoy parts of How To Be A Woman) - I don’t see her like Grace Dent at all.

What I don’t get about Sali is she made all th fuss about turning her hair grey and yet her Guardian byline photo is still dark 🤷‍♀️

I love her. I don't see her as being remotely like Caitlin Moran or Sali Hughes.

I love her restaurant reviews and I remember enjoying her TV reviews in the Guardian years ago. But I got half-way through her book and there was something about the way she wrote about her friends when she started getting a bit of fame that really rubbed me up the wrong way. She came across as massively self-centred and egotistical. I never did finish the book so maybe she redeemed herself later on but I found it very off-putting.

I love Grace. I have a bit of a crush really. I want her to be my friend. I want her to share her clothes with me.

I'm on the last few pages of her 1st book. Its made me snort aloud a few times. Love her
