Do I return to my friend after finding a better hair stylist?

Help, what do I do?

I've had my hair cut by a friend for about 15 years. She owns the salon and business is often hard. My hair is easy to cut and I've been happy.

She has been unwell and not around for about 3 months so I've been somewhere else and although my style hasn't changed, I love the way they cut my hair and it definitely looks better.

My friend is now back at work and asking when I want to book an appointment, I know she's really worried about the business and her livelihood etc

What do I do? My heart says I need to go back to her and my head says stick with what looks best.

Do you have a picture of when it had just been cut by the better stylist? Perhaps take it to your friend and say "I asked the other stylist to adapt my usual cut to best suit me and they came up with this which I love, could you replicate"? It gives her a fair chance at doing it, but if not I think you'll have to be honest, don't sacrifice how you feel about how you look for a friend xx

I would stick with the new hairdresser. Sorry friend, some things are too important!

Maybe business is hard because she's not very good?

This is why I never go to friends or family for such things. I was looking for a new hairdresser a few years back and a friend kept recommending a relative of hers. I had to say that I just don't do people I know for services like that. Imagine if something went terribly wrong or you hated the cut. I also used to be quite transient with my hairdresser and I didn't want to feel like I could never try anywhere else without offending.

I usually never mix business and pleasure as it never goes well. This time it was business first and over the years we've become friends.
