How do PT sessions work?

I've finally made the first step and contacted a PT I saw recommended in my local area.

Before I bombard her with questions just wanted to check what is the normal etiquette. She charges £25 a session, do these have to be every week or can I do every fortnight? Can I attend the gym she works from without her inbetween our sessions? Can I book a months worth of sessions then just go on my own?

Apologies for all the questions, just wanted to get an idea of what's normall before diving in 💪

They are mostly self employed so will all have their own T&Cs. You would usually need a membership for the gym they work out of to go in between sessions. Whether they have you weekly or fortnightly will be up to them completely. I don’t think you will get much out of just one month (especially if only going fortnightly).

What’s your goal ? You’ve taken the first step in contacting someone about training sessions and at £25 that’s pretty lowly priced. You need to know exactly what you’re paying for to me £25 would just be a weight training session.

When I had a coach I had my body fat assessment before each training session and a nutrition plan to follow plus a training program to follow when training on my own.

Hi, I’m a PT. £25 is very low. As pp said, each PT will have their own t&cs.
Most of my clients do weekly sessions with me, some twice weekly. All have a programme to follow outside our sessions, tailored to their goals and where they’ll be working out/ what they like/ their experience. Eg someone might workout at home with dumbbells, someone else might prefer a gym programme. I can train people who aren’t members of the gym I work from, but they’re very experienced can’t use it without me unless they join.

I have some clients who I see once a month in person but they’re very experienced and so mostly I just programme for them and do a form and technique check once a month.

My clients also have nutritional guidance, but check your PT is qualified to offer that if you do want it. I use an app so they can all track their progress, message me, log their food intake, training etc… but I charge a lot more than £25.

I hope you’ve found someone fabulous, but please do double check qualifications and exactly what you’ll get for your money because to me that sounds like just a weekly weight session as pp said.

Good luck!

I'd be asking her to advise really, I see mine twice a week and don't go in between because I'm too lazy and dont do it and she and I know that about me, others I've had I saw once a week and they gave me follow up routines for home or the gym (you'd have to be a gym member). It depends on your goals and what you're aiming for as well. I'd just be honest with her, say "I've never had a pt so sorry if I'm asking stupid questions!" If she is any good, she'll say that there is no such thing as a stupid question, and to ask away. Ime the people you feel relaxed and at ease with are the ones you click best and will work best for your body/health.

Usually you go every week and they give you a diet plan / calories to follow and sometimes at home workouts too. No point in going every fortnight tbh if you want to see progress of muscle gain / strength increase / fat loss whatever the goal is - speak to the PT directly they’ll all have their own ways of doing things
