PIP - how dose it work, new claim for my mum

My mum needs to apply for PIP, how dose this work ? When she calls do they interview her straight away or book her an appointment? If anyone knows- that would be really helpful.

You phone up the new claims line, call is around 20 mins and then you are sent out the PIP2 form.
Complete the PIP2 form and send it back. A couple of weeks after that you’ll usually receive a letter with details of a health assessment appointment.
A few weeks after the assessment you will receive the decision.

I think the first step is to fill in the form or has she already done this?

It’s a tough process.
My husband has only recently been awarded PIP after being off work since December 2025.
We did 3 applications and refused each time despite him having early onset dementia and he also had a stroke last November.
We ended up getting some advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau who sent a lovely lady out to our home to fill out the forms. I was out of the country at the time and she face timed me while she was sitting with my husband and filling out the forms. She even took them back to her office to stamp them and send them back.
Would highly recommend doing this as they know what to put and how to word everything which is really important.
