I am paid on Friday and when I checked my wage slip today it was about £900 less than it should be. I looked and was on a really weird tax code and M1, I called HMRC and they said it was a mistake and adjusted it straight away and said they would let my employer know and hopefully the payroll hadn't quite through yet and my employer could sort it out. Spoke to payroll at work today and of course it has already gone through and should be rectified next month (as in I should get the money back then).
I am really pissed off because I have been with my employer for 5 years and the only thing that has changed is that I merged some old pensions so no idea why I was put on this tax code. The guy I spoke to at HMRC asked if I had started claiming my state pension (I am 55 and definitely haven't).
Also biggest problem is I am massively out of pocket this month, I have a really right budget and work really hard never to have to use any credit (so no credit cards, overdraft etc.) and I don't really have anyone I can ask to lend me any money (and would hate to do that anyway). Payroll didn't offer any solutions (not that I would expect them to).
I going to call HMRC tomorrow to see if they can issue a rebate - has anyone else had anything like this happen to them and I am only dreaming to think they can do some kind of emergency rebate (they were quite clear it was a mistake on their part).
Any advice would be great.
