Looking to book a break for a special birthday 60th ...by the coast. Where is nice and posh!! not too big...good facilities, nice beach anywhere in uk other than places that need a ferry to get to!

Oh I need ideas too. I’ve heard Tenby is nice but no idea if it’s posh. Salcombe in Devon used to be nice but depends when you go as this time of year it’ll be awful.

We are going mid May next year ( not in school holidays)

Shaldon, South Devon. Tiny village with a lovely hotel called The Ness. Some lovely places to eat including The London Inn. Lots of lovely walks and you can get the small ferry across the estuary to Teignmouth which is slightly bigger.

Posh?

north Norfolk is posh. Wells next the sea and Blakeney and Holkham hall.

Burgh Island in Devon.
No ferry but there is the water tractor.
Absolutely lovely place, have had some happy times there.

We love Lyme Regis.

I wouldn’t actually call it ‘posh’ -IMO it’s one of the very few seaside places that are neither poncey and up themselves - or rough - but are very happily in the middle.

Whistable is lovely.

Not sure on the posh front but my personal favourites over the years have been Whitby (particularly Sandsend which is a bit less busy), Robin hoods bay, St Bees and Aberystwyth.

For posh I’d recommend Southwold or Aldeburgh in Suffolk.

Wells Next the Sea for not exactly posh but not rough. Whitby for the same reason.

Bamburgh, stunning beach and close to other stunning beaches.
North Yorkshire coast is beautiful, there is a lovely hotel on the cliff top at Ravenscar, could walk to Robin hoods bay at low tide, visit Whitby.

this is beautiful, right next to the sea in Saundersfoot. Not necessarily a posh town but has some fabulous restaurants and a lovely beach. It’s fairly close to tenby so you could also go there during your stay.

What are your criteria? Budget? Do you want a hotel or self catering? Do you want to look over the sea or are you not bothered? Is anything else important? Where, roughly, in the UK will you be coming from? Will you drive? How far are you prepared to drive?

Southwold is lovely, we self catered in a gorgeous house and went to some great restaurants and a nice vineyard

In Cornwall, St Mawes is definitely posh, Hotel Tresanton is lovely, Idle Rocks is variable though (I've only eaten there, not stayed)

Likewise Falmouth isn't posh but has 2 great beaches, some very good restaurants and you'll be ok if you go self catering. There aren't any fabulous hotels but St Michael's Resort is the best (4 star)

Saunton Sands in Devon has a fabulous beach but the hotel is only so so, the rooms vary in quality and not all have sea views or balconies. There isn't much else to do around there.

I was going to suggest Teignmouth so this is spot on! Not sure about hotels though. The Cary Arms in Torquay is nice.

Rye is nice too, not technically seaside town but very close. There's a nice B&B in Rye Harbour: https://www.oldvicarageryeharbour.co.uk/

Would like a Seaview.. hotel or self catering..budget around 3k for two!

Definitely Northumberland, lots of lovely places to discover. Great restaurants and pubs as well.

Some lovely places to stay in Mumbles and further out on Gower, depending on what you want to do during your stay. Weather's usually good in May (though sea still a bit cold), and outside of half term won't be too busy.

Saltburn by the sea is absolutely beautiful. it's North Yorkshire. The town is gorgeous with amazing food and drink venues and a pier and a stunning beach.

Aberaeron is stunning - stay at either the Harbourmaster or the Seler - you can also travel down the coast to New Quay Wales & Llangrannog - both beautiful! Or Tenby as someone else has mentioned but Aberaeron is definitely classier in my opinion 😊
