End of school year traditions

I’m a sucker for a tradition and would love to start some end of school year ones with my children, does anyone do anything special or have any traditions they can share please?

Our favourite is to lie in a darkened room without speaking for a week after the end of term.

Possibly:
Ice-cream or chips on the way home/for tea.
New toy/treat/craft (Keep them busy independently)
Movie night

One of the mums used to host a class BBQ at the end of term. My other child we used to all meet at the beach for a picnic lunch (we used to live by the sea - it wasn’t a major group outing).
As an individual family we didn’t do anything in particular. We often used to go on holiday shortly after end of the term as it was a couple weeks before state schools broke up so flights were still a little bit cheaper.

These all sound lovely, planning to lay in dark room in silence the day before they break up

Normally we just have a movie night and let them stay up later then usual or go and do a activity.

DD is bi-lingual and discovered the word "Sommerferiensbegrüssungseisbecher" once in a book. Yes it's a typical German word meaning:
Ice cream sundae to celebrate the start of the summer holidays.

This then became a tradition - I collected her from school and we went straight to the ice cream shop.

Often followed by pizza or chicken nuggets and chips for dinner.

Our school do a family picnic on the field on the last day. One year I didn't have time to go home and make lunch so I grabbed a Greggs on the way, the kids loved it and now it's tradition that I always bring Greggs to the picnic, I must look like an awful mum that can't be arsed to make a proper lunch 🤦

We then all go down the beach with their friends and get an ice cream and swim in the sea.

Greggs and a swim in the sea is a tradition I could get on board with!!

My kids often start the holidays with a pyjama day at home (now 17 and 15!)

I do a snack/treat box for them to have when they get home from school full of their favourite chocolate, sweets crisps, little items like lip balm, gum that they’re not normally allowed etc then we have a takeaway to celebrate the start of the holidays.

We’re a family of introverts who all love reading, so our tradition at primary school was off to the library to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge and get a huge pile of books each. Then a quiet afternoon reading, often with the sweets and chocolates they’d been given as end of term treats to nibble.

We tried parties and play dates a few times, but they always ended in tears. Too much excitement and end of term tiredness.

I used to often pick my dc up and head for Portsmouth for the overnight ferry. We would often bump into other kids my dc knew and their teachers, our terms were different so significantly cheaper to go straight away than wait a week

I work in a primary school, so I'm usually running on fumes by the end of term. Give it a couple of days and I'm hot-and-cold running treats and fun, but i need a weekend to recover!

Ice cream and sweet teeat on way home. Party with his little girlfriend tomorrow night as us parents are great friends too. He also has a new lego set for Thursday morning.

We live in Cornwall so usually the whole class (only 10-15 in a class) agrees a beach to go to and we go there for a play and a swim on the last day.

I have always bought my children something small for the start of the summer hols - something they need or that they can have fun outside with. Water guns this year!

All the village schools go to the local park / playground after school and the ice cream van turns up. Mums go for a bit and then leave the older kids to play.
Low expectations for a couple of days after that.
Then the fun starts!
