Is it normal to have few friends in your forties?

Wasn’t sure where to post this. I’m 47 and feeling quite lonely and down. I am married and have a 6 year old. I have very little family apart from my elderly dad I’m an only child. I don’t have really any friends. I’m generally quiet and find it hard to make conversation in groups and don’t feel like I fit in. I have been having a few relationship problems and have no one to talk to. Is it normal to not have many friends in your forties?

I think it's more common than you think. I am sure there are lots of people that feel lonely and friendship groups change when people enter different stages of life, or if people move to another city.

Are there any other mums that you could foster a friendship with? Or perhaps a hobby that others might be involved in?
