What do want in a government..and New Prime minister.???
What's important to you ...???7
I don't mean the things that get discussed all the time
For me
One of the things that upsets me is the decay of British seaside towns .
I remember going to Blackpool as a child as having fantastic holidays in the 1970s .
I went back about 10 years ago and was so shocked at how rundown it was .
We tend to always holiday in the UK ..and I've noticed lots of places we visited, the town centre is run down ..
It feels like they are being left to rot .
I also want a government that makes big changes in education
I have relatives who's child has spent 3 years at college retaking GCSE maths and English..to be able to do the retake he has to be enrolled on a foundation course..but they don't let him progress to the next level ,each time he fails ,he has to start another foundation course in a different subject..
he's going to leave college, with no maths or English GCSE,and three Foundation courses..two of which he's not the slightest bit interested in.
How is that going to get him a job...he's qualified for nothing after 3 years at college.
Our local college won't let the children do functional skills untill 19 and attending adult education in an evening.
I want a government that puts in place ,where every child leaves college at 19 with a skill or trade to get a job ,if they are going to university.
Anything else is a waste of time and money

100% clarity that men cannot be women, and that it is essential that women's single sex spaces and services are always just that and are properly funded and protected. So far only Kemi Badenoch has been clear about this, so i will vote tory at the next election if Labour mess up again.

@Daisydave an extremely simple answer to his problems would be yes to allow him to sit functional skills but also, to simply teach him how he needs to be taught.

Many can't read because phonics is the only way they teach.
You can't keep teaching struggling students in the same way and expect different results !

To get hardline with immigration.

Removal of foreign criminals (if necessary by threatening withdrawl of aid or refusing visas from any country refusing to take them back). Much stricter criteria for legal migration, no more disappearing 'students' into the black econony, no more allowing entire families along that wipe out any financial benefit with what they take from the systems they use.

I am a decendant of immigrants myself, and this isn't about pulling the ladder up behind us.

But the current system is simply unsustainable, and worse, will lead to a very hard right government within the next ten years (and I fear Reform will be the least of our worries). It will be bad for everyone.

It has been beyond frustrating to see parties I vote for stick their head in the sand and worse, sneer at anyone discussing the issues. Do they not see where their moral grandstanding is leading us?

Such a mix of good and extremely bad judgement in the cabinet appointments but I suppose he has to repay the coup organisers.

The freebies were the start of the rot for Starmer so not positive that Burnham is starting off with a convicted fraudster in the cabinet office and giving Rayner her old job back when she fiddled her tax.

I would like some higher standards in public life so I am already disappointed.

Reverse Rachel from Accounts jobs tax.
Unfreeze the personal tax allowances

Fund it by-

Stop the foreign aid budget
Evict all asylum seekers and refugees and stop their allowances.
Confiscate 3/4 of the wealth of the Royal family

Immigration. Rape gangs. The judiciary operating two tier sentencing. I hold out zero hope as somehow it has been decided that British women and girls are rape fodder.

To cut the welfare bill and get 1 million teens off the dole. Once that is done, the money saved can be diverted into coastal towns and the NHS and secondary education, all of which I agree need funds.

Starmer completely misjudged the minimum wage for young people. Most young people would rather be in a job and earning something, be developing some skills and be gaining some experience at a lower wage, than not having a job at all on a higher rate of pay. It was a poor decision and needs reversing.

My ds is 17. He's had a part time job for a year and was paid £7.55 an hour. The fact that rose to £8 meant nothing compared to gaining the confidence, experience, skills, friendship, respect and a reference that his job has provided.

Secondly, to deal with the organised crime that is infesting our high streets and city centres.
Networks of 'Turkish barbers' and vape shops dealing illegal vapes, cigarettes, alcohol, narcotics, money laundering, people trafficking and rape gangs. Every one of those businesses needs closing down. Everyone associated with them must be banned from being a director and refused citizenship. Every town should have a police unit that focuses on trader crime, because every one of those shops denies the treasury revenues, quite apart from the other harms they do.

I'd like to see PCCs specifically tasked with driving them out. See PCCs do something specifically useful with their budgets. Every asylum seeker convicted of organised crime to be automatically removed and rejected permanently.

I would like to see the introduction of free prescriptions for mental health medication.

Get a grip on uncontrolled immigration.

Detain Small Boat Migrants in secure compounds, not let them wander around to assault our women and girls

If countries won't take back their criminal citizens have a moratorium on visas for the country and cut Foreign Aid.

Tell the UNHCR to take a hike, take a leaf out of Poland's book.

Conicallychronic · 21/07/2026 03:14

I want leadership, fresh ideas, economic growth, care for those who need it, a sensible approach to immigration, nationalised utilities, better education for all and an NHS where I don’t have to wait four weeks to see a GP.

Wander3r · 21/07/2026 03:47

The mental health crisis has to be sorted somehow 😬 Not only because it causes so much suffering at an individual level, but also because it affects society as a whole through lost productivity, higher benefit and healthcare costs, more antisocial behaviour, crime, etc.
