Got a UTI 😔

Started yesterday, by last night I had to go to the late pharmacy to get antibiotics, which are helping to be fair.
But just feel a bit yuck and sorry for myself. Am hoping the 3 days of antibiotics clear it and I dont need to try to get a doctors appointment this week.

I haven't had this since ds was born and hes an adult now.

Any tips on how to feel better would be appreciated. Im drinking water so far.

I regularly get UTI's thanks to the medication I'm on, and I had a really good chat to the GP last time. He said cranberry juice/barley water is a myth, as is D Mannose supplements and that if they really helped, they'd be given to patients on prescription! They're essentially full of sugar and that helps no ones bladder. The only thing that does help is scrupulous hygiene, and drinking lots of water to flush the bacteria out while you're waiting for the antibiotics to work.

I see a urologist about my UTIs. While I was waiting for scans and a treatment plan he asked if I take D Mannose, which I did sporadically. He told me to take it every day because it works well. So I have been. He gave me a course of Hiprex but unfortunately it makes me unwell so I’ve gone back to the D Mannose until I see him again.

I was also recommended D-Mannose by my urologist. He also told me to never try Hiprex again as I'd been given it by a GP and it made me incredibly unwell, I've never experienced pain like it in my life and it kicked off several months of severe bladder/urethral pain.

Yes I found this
Both D-mannose and Hipprex gave me severe cystitis
Then I found out it was BV anyway

Sorry, what is BV? And how is it different to a UTI?

Also , can I buy D Manoose over the counter?

I take 2,000mg of D Mannose per day, I buy mine on Amazon. I take it three times a day if I think I'm getting an infection.

Just a word of warning about d mannose, i use it all the time at first sign of water infection but this last time the infection was deeper in my bladder and I didn't realise, ended up with a kidney infection.

D mannose is good for preventing a UTI or getting rid of a UTI but only if it is in the UT and not further into the bladder.

This is a good warning and a reminder that D-Mannose is not a substitute for antibiotics. I use it for prevention and would take additional doses with an infection but I would always still seek medical advice for an infection. Don't try to ride out an infection by taking D-Mannose, if you're getting worse you should always see a doctor.

I take cranberry tablets daily which do seem to keep things at bay.
