Could patio grout or sealant be causing a strong chemical smell?

In laws have had their patio recently redone. And now MIL can smell a funny smell - chemical unpleasant smell. I haven't been round yet but no one else can smell it.

She's slightly worried she's going mad, but it's so strong that she can hardly bear to be in the house or garden.

I reckon it's probably the grout going off - has anyone else had this?

When we had our patio redone they warned us that there would be a smell from the grout/cement/whatever between the slabs as it hardened. Didn't last for very long.

Yes when we had our patio done, the grout absolutely stunk for a while afterwards. I can’t remember how long it lasted but it did go away!

If an epoxy has been used then that can have a pungent aroma but it should clear very quickly, especially in an outside area.
That said, I can't think of why it would have been used for laying slabs, grouting etc as that would be practically oderless.

Have they had resin bound shingle installed as I can imagine that would be smelly initially?
