Depends what you want

Malham Cove is stunning when it’s in flow (only after heavy rain) but Janet’s Foss nearby is a permanent waterfall you can swim in the pool at the bottom. Gordale scar is on the same loop walk and reportedly inspired Tolkien when he was writing some of the landscape of middle earth

Stainforth Force near Settle is said to have salmon in the autumn- but I’ve never been there at the right time of year to have seen them

I think the biggest waterfall in the uk is in the dales - but can’t remember the name

Hawdraw force is nice, it’s in the back of a pub, you have to pay. I was at Malham Cove this week and no waterfall flowing. I did go to Janets foss though which was nice.

Janet’s Foss is cute and charming, given the location but I’d say Aysgarth is better in terms of size.

Malham Cove was a waterfall for a couple of days about 10 years ago. Never before in living history, and never since.

Goredale Scar is very impressive, and so is Janet's Foss, but that isn’t high at all.

Hardraw Force is the one you want. Aysgarth is also beautiful but wide, rather than a high drop.

I visited the Ingleton water falls many years ago, it’s beautiful. It’s near Ingleborough in the Yorkshire Dales, we’ll worth a visit.

To be honest you need to travel a tiny bit farther north and visit High Force. Best, biggest, most beautiful!

I agree.

Thornton Force on the Ingleton waterfalls circuit?

Agree with this, it took my breath away when I first saw it! Absolutely incredible. Even the teens were impressed 😂

Go to Highfall Waterfall in County Durham instead x

Isn't much water at Aysgarth at the moment.

Preppingforsummer · 20/07/2026 08:21

Ingleton falls are lovely. Mallyon spout (North yorkshire but not the dales) is smaller but much nicer that the bigger ones in my opinion.

IfIHadAHeart · 20/07/2026 08:42

I would agree with the others - High Force is worth the extra distance. It really is impressive.

Thanks everyone will be heading out from york, so will search up all your ideas and see what one to go to
I didkinda fancy going on the dales bus but do you think it would be better to drive
