Does anyone else feel anxious around police despite doing nothing wrong?

I feel afraid of the police even though I haven't done anything wrong. I've had to make reports before, I've never been in trouble with them but live in a higher crime area. When they speak to me I feel like they're suspicious of me?
Whenever I see their car my heart drops. I do have anxiety in general. I want to know if this feeling is common or if no one else really even thinks about it

Haha I feel the same. I feel a bit guilty when I see police, even though I haven’t broken the law since I was a teenager.

Ha yep. They followed me for a few miles last week when I was driving between jobs and I was silently shitting myself even though I wasn’t doing anything wrong 😂

Yes, but think it’s the way I was raised generally, when there was still corporal punishment in schools etc, and around being afraid of authority.

Whenever we had had to deal with the police they have been excellent.

I feel the same. I woke one morning to a note from the police to say my number plates had been stolen and to contact them. A car bearing my plates(the stolen ones) had been used on a car to commit a crime. Obviously the plates led them to my house where my car was sitting with no plates on the driveway. I phoned them and they came to see me at work! I was terrified even though I knew what had happened. I had to drive home at lunch time, get my v5 and go to Halfords after work to get new plates. The police told me not you drive through any red lights whilst I had no plates as obviously I couldn't be caught. They were really nice. But it was a long day 7-7 then I had to go to Halfords and wait nearly an hour so I was very tired. I'm a GP and the same police were back in the surgery a week later on another matter. They were very amused to find me again and yes I felt very nervous

me too. I hate it when I see them behind me on the road even though I’ve done nothing wrong car is serviced, insured, taxed and mot’d. I’ve never even had a parking ticket but still they make me nervous.

Absolutely. But I feel there is good reason for lack of trust in, and fear of the police.

Yes but then I do the same with security guards in supermarkets. I start acting like I've stolen half of the shop when I obviously haven't 😂

Even the cardboard cut out policeman in the window of Home Bargains makes me wonder if I'm doing anything wrong.

Yes I drive like a banana when they are behind me despite being a driver for 42 years and totally clean licence .

Driving is always what seems to be the issue (I mean with law-abiding people!)
Used to get this all the time driving at night-not so much more recently, but always got stopped for doing nothing wrong. As if it's weird to be out at night and not drinking.

I grew up somewhere where police were to be feared. Moved here and gradually got over it. But somehow the feeling of unease and distrust has crept back in over the past 10 years. Not entirely sure why- some combo of too much power and not doing much positive with it perhaps.

Yes because as we are all aware, sometimes people haven’t done anything wrong and the police are dishonest at best. Not all but an awful lot of them.
