Good Morning Everyone! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in my conservatory spot. Boy cat's curled up for a post-breakfast nap on "his" chair and girl cat seems to have gone back to bed. I've got the washer on already, and some of last night's pots soaking before washing them.

I want to get out in the garden for a few slow hours, today. All along one long strip is overrun with bindweed & I'm not quite sure what to do about it other than keep digging it out 🤔. I'll cut back the brambles too & re-hang my hanging basket. I also want to get some weed killer down on the path, patio and pebbled area at the bottom of the garden. Not sure if it might be too windy for that today though.

I'm not sure what the girls are planning - probably not much of anything. Dd2's done the majority of her summer work for college but does have a small reading list for each subject so maybe I'll get her to have a look for a couple of the books. Dd1 needs to carry on unpacking & sorting her things here. Sure she'll be thrilled with that!

Later on we'll have gammon for tea, with cauli cheese and roast spuds, followed by something sweet. Maybe crumble & custard 😋.

What about all of you? 🙂

Morning. I’ve missed your threads over the last few weeks!
Only me and DH up here, adult dds in bed still.
Today I want to get a load of washing done and on the line and give the house a good clean.
No real plans today, DGD may be coming over later with DS and DIL so it will be nice to see them.
Later on it’ll be a glass of wine and the World Cup final while enjoying the fact I don’t have to iron school uniforms and sort packed lunch for younger DD.
Have a lovely Sunday all

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 19/07/2026 09:12

Good morning lucysmam and others. I have been up and had 2 coffees, a tea and 2 slices of toast. Im currently reclining on my bed but will make myself move, get dressed and do a small ironing before a tesco delivery at 11. Then I want to wash the wrought iron railings at the front door and the kitchen door. Dinner will be chicken salad. Have a good day all

FusionChefGeoff · 19/07/2026 09:13

We’ve had a fucking mental 2 weeks including a long weekend away and DD last week in primary. She’s got cricket later so I’ve bought lazy picnic stuff and will be lying on the boundary reading my book for the afternoon.

I forced myself to do cleaning / chores last night after our last insanely busy day and now I am so glad I can do fuck all until it’s time to leave!!!!

Bedroom needs a bit of a tidy and I’ve got some bits to put up on Vinted so would be good to get that done.

But for now it’s tea and Mumsnet.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/07/2026 09:19

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

It's a cloudy day! With the possibility of showers! How fantastic 😁.

Apart from putting a wash on, my only plan for today is to get to grips with cleaning at least part of our new (not new at all but new to us) cupboard/bookcase, which is absolutely filthy! It does rather depend on Mr Dilemma though, as he is currently trying to remove the damaged cornice and then he may decide to do something else with it.... He may even get all enthusiastic and want to go out to try and find some replacement cornice. If so it will need to be smaller - the current cornice is VERY big and quite overbearing. I did think about doing without it entirely but it's a very traditional style piece of furniture and it might just look unfinished.

The plan for this evening's meal was burgers in buns with salad, for a treat. However I have rather a lot of yesterday's stuffed marrow left which I was going to have for lunch... but I'm not very hungry at the moment and may not feel like it, so may need to have it this evening. I already have 2 portions in the freezer. (Note to self, however much you like stuffed marrow it's best to do it when there are other people here to share it with). Mr Dilemma will be having the rest of his yesterday's cauliflower cheese for lunch.

So - I'm about to go downstairs to see how Mr Dilemma is getting on and to provide pleased and congratulatory noises, with perhaps some VERY gentle suggestions on what we should do next.....

Have a good day everyone - or at least the best day you can.

Tiddlywinks63 · 19/07/2026 09:26

Good morning everyone, it’s another sunny day here, no signs of it ending yet.
@DilemmaDelilah I love stuffed marrow 😋, I’m hoping I can get a marrow soon!
So far I have done 2 loads of washing (dog blankets and throws), tidied the kitchen and bedroom, half-heartedly started sorting stuff for charity collection next week, prepped pork joint for dinner and ordered a Sashiko book online.
I might even start a piece of sashiko today 😁
Dh took tiddler out very early, he and bigger dog are off to the village shortly.
So, not a lot happening here at the moment!

frozendaisy · 19/07/2026 09:27

Morning morning morning

About to make first coffee, later start today as we got sucked into football match last night, after saying we weren’t bothered! Once H is invested in watching a ball being chased about it’s hard to uninvest!

Then will read for as long as I can (700 page novel which I am now fully invested in)

H announced his (Spanish) mum is coming over to watch ball chasing final with us (come on Spain) and as I hadn’t food planned for this it has been decided to get take out from our favourite Turkish restaurant (result!) so he can do the shopping/food run (more time for reading)

Eldest needs to keep up college work over summer so it’s not quite the kickback time as it is for others, hence all my reading at the moment, he is fine studying away if everyone else isn’t “having fun” on screens so it’s sort of leading by example, and I get to go through my to-read pile, and then I can get new books! Win-win (I have barred myself from new books but then went on an Alan Moore and Jennifer Egan binge buy so that should keep me quiet for a bit)

Don’t think teens have any plans today, but they like to spring things on us, keeps life interesting doesn’t it!

Enjoy Sunday y’all

frozendaisy · 19/07/2026 09:31

@lucysmam weedkiller is not great for humans

dissolve salt in water in a spray bottle
dig out weeds - spray area plants hate salt

bindweed/brambles - both dig out roots
if you can get really good gardeners knife you can sort of dig in and cut roots under the soil
also cover area with thick cardboard especially over winter into spring cutting off the sunlight thwarts new growth

if you want to be more organic but also a bit lazy

OchreSwan · 19/07/2026 09:34

Morning all! Sunny day here too but much cooler even so, which is very welcome. I’ve had toast and coffee and am steeling myself to go for a run after skipping yesterday’s. Then I’ll do some sorting and cleaning as house is a tip after a very busy few weeks! I’ll need to pop to the shop for a few things for the week too - though should only be a small one - some fruit and fresh veg as we’re well stocked up otherwise.

Not sure what dinner will be, perhaps fishfinger sandwiches. My friends kindly sent me home
with the leftover bottle of wine last night as I was designated driver so wasn’t drinking. I’ll enjoy finishing that off with the football this evening.

FamingolosForDays · 19/07/2026 09:37

Morning all!

Currently lazing about in bed, dozing in and out. I got lots of house jobs done yesterday and then went on the most wonderful date. Didnt get much sleep so im being a bit lazy this morning.

I need to get all the camping stuff out of the cupboard as we go away on Thursday to a festival. Need to pop to the tip, clear up all the apples that have already fallen off the tree and get ready for work tomorrow, which probably means doing some pre-work work (!)

lucysmam · 19/07/2026 09:40

@frozendaisy thank you! I have a fair bit of cardboard left from the new sofa so will try that on the un-planted bit of this strip. The very end has a group of cordylines (sp?) and a rather large bamboo that's half dead - I've been slowly removing the dead bit. The other end has a shrub tree thing that should be quite nice, given a bit of tlc, and a holly bush so think I'll just have to keep digging that bit.

Morning everyone! The sun is shining but it’s cooler today. I have what feels like a trillion things to do in the next 48 hours, so am drinking a cup of tea next to the open door to the garden. Someone is mowing their lawn somewhere and the glorious smell of freshly cut grass is wafting in. Just having a moment to quietly breathe… then will make a list. Suspect I am mentally lumping in ALL of the things into my To Do which will hopefully become apparent on paper. Going to work out priorities and focus on the must dos. Get them out of the way and then see what else is most important. (That may be just having another sit down…!)

Enjoy your Sundays.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/07/2026 10:02

@Tiddlywinks63 I had so much trouble finding marrows last year I decided to grow my own this year - however they are still only the size of small courgettes at the moment. I'm not sure why... there is manure and good compost in the bed and they've had plenty of watering... but somebody local was giving away a couple of marrows so I got them from him. I'm hoping I will have several worth storing later in the year. I find it an excellent addition to a curry.

mamaduckbone · 19/07/2026 10:07

Good morning @lucysmamand all!
I’ve been for a quick run, and had coffee and eggs for breakfast in the garden with Dh.
Both boys are working today, so Dh and I are going to walk over to a farmers market at a local taproom and have a potter and a pint.
I will go to see my mum later this afternoon, then bbq for dinner.
In between that I’ll carry on sorting clothes and washing for our holiday on Tuesday, and I want to persevere with some crochet this evening. I’m a complete novice trying to master granny squares.
Have a good Sunday everyone!

gingercat02 · 19/07/2026 10:11

Morning all, slow start after my day out yesterday. Brilliant day, Spoons breakfast at 12, home and in bed by 11pm. Loads of fun.
Just having breakfast. DH and I are going to a charity food festival at a local brewery at lunchtime, then home for F1 on catch up.
Then a quiet evening before work tomorrow

Rowgtfc72 · 19/07/2026 10:19

Morning!
Spent the week with dh( in between our shifts at work) painting the front room, emptying old furniture, arranging for charity shop to pick up old furniture. Last sat ikea delivered 54 boxes of flat pack- dd picked up 10 more on Thursday. Thursday morning the carpet fitters arrived. I scrubbed the sofa in the sunshine while dd and dh built flat pack. Yesterday dh put the room doors back on. They won't shut with the new carpet.
So, today is helping dh hang new doors, putting up the acoustic panels and sorting through the ridiculous amount of boxes of crap we emptied out of the front room and need to go back.
We've saved for this and it will look amazing. 🤞
Sausage dog is due home this afternoon as hes had a few days at the in laws to keep him out from under our feet.

F1 this afternoon.

Happy Sunday everyone.

NelferchyLlyn · 19/07/2026 10:42

I had a lazy morning after a hectic weejkin work and running errands yesterday. Woke up at 9.30am! Having a coffee with husband in the garden.

Will do a food shop in a little while, take ddog for a walk dependant when its cool enough.

I heard a rumour we might have a curry later :-)

TheeNotoriousPIG · 19/07/2026 10:45

Good morning, all! I've had a productive morning so far. I've fed and sorted out my animals, put the dishwasher on, I'm on the second load of laundry, I've taken the bins out, ordered paint samples to work out which one to do the hall and landing with, removed all of the plants that have carried on dying in the heatwave, been surprised by a few that are still alive, sprayed next door's garden with weedkiller (I have spent years attacking it with loppers, a pruning saw, secateurs and my own bare hands, and have now given in and tried out weedkiller for the first time; the person living there part-time never deals with it and thinks it's fine for those whose gardens back onto theirs to be overrun with a mass of thorns, ragwort and random trees), weeded my own garden (so the tortoise got a feast of dandelions; I'm sure that he's all stomach under that shell!), poo-picked after the dogs (I have a big garden), sprayed some squeaky hinges with WD40, and sent an enquiry to ask if I am to expect a chap with extendable loppers today. I am hoping that he will be able to cut back the overhanging trees at height, as I am not very good with heights, or very tall, even on ladders!

I've also finished this week's book, and agreed to cover for someone at work early tomorrow, as they are away at a show. I might pop out for some compost later, and perhaps some indestructible geraniums for my planters, even though they are not my favourite plants... mainly because vine weevils do not like to eat them, they are hard to kill, and I am a novice gardener with a propensity to accidentally murder plants. After that, it's bonus points if I can pick up some reduced items to fill my freezer with at the supermarket on the way back! Then I need to do some batch cooking for the week ahead and I will probably have demolished all of the cake by bedtime.

Morning Everyone

Just had breakfast made my DH. About to shower and get ready to meet some friends in town. Bought a new top but I have lost a wee bit of weight and it’s too big. While I’m happy it’s too big now I have to find something to wear!

Later today we heading to friends for a World Cup party so that will be fun. Busy day of socialising for me. Lucky I’m off tomorrow!

Enjoy your Sunday guys

MarmaladeSandwich7 · 19/07/2026 10:57

Good morning @lucysmam & everyone. Clock watching as sadly I have to work later. Swapped shifts so I could have yesterday off after my procedure. It will be very busy I think as the weather is cooler but that will make the time go faster. I went to bed after the first half of the big match last night but then came down again & watched til the end.Thought I would sleep in as a result but still woke around 7. Made a cuppa for me & DH. I got up at 9ish & had leftover paella for breakfast, as you do! Washed down by another cuppa. Thought very hard about doing the dishwasher! I’ve emptied the washing machine & put DH’s white shirts on 60 degrees. Once they’re done, I will hang it all out. Got everything ready for work when I was down earlier so just need to get changed & clean my teeth. DD17 is out for a walk. She’s going to stay with her GF from tomorrow for a week or two. Not sure about tea but think something with chips. No plans for tonight. I might write a letter to my Aunty. Used to do it regularly but have got out of the habit. Also may try to upload more stuff on Vinted. Have a great Sunday all ❤️

ShetlandishMum · 19/07/2026 12:01

I am so exhausted. My plan is bed - couch - sofa today. That's it. DH and DC not at home.

Crunchymum · 19/07/2026 12:42

Hello all and happy Sunday.

After an absolutely mammoth few weeks (DC2 left primary school on Friday) I've lost the will. It's been event after event and I've also been juggling work, an older child and a younger child.

Yesterday we swam and had a chill day. More of the same today, minus swimming. So far we've been trying to make a dent in the chores.

Just about to do lunch and then DC1 is meeting a friend and DP is taking DC2 and DC3 out for a bike ride / park run.

Dinner is toad in the hole and green veg.

Lots on next week so this weekend has been all about resting.

DilemmaDelilah · 19/07/2026 17:11

@ShetlandishMum are you OK?

Simonjt · 19/07/2026 17:44

Good evening I hope everyones day has gone okay so far.

We’ve managed to paint the kids rooms, ceiling and walls. The same colour, but they needed doing as they are covered in scuffs and pen marks.

As the kids aren’t here we’re treating ourselves to a takeaway that we’ll eat while the football is on.

Natsku · 19/07/2026 17:47

We've been to visit DD at confirmation camp today, the camp site is on a beautiful island, very picturesque. The rest of my day has been spent playing my new Zelda game.
Just getting home now, will have some supper and an early night to make up for yesterday's late night.
