Upsetting…think someone stole from my DD

This is so bizarre..would appreciate any thoughts. We’re on holiday (nice resort, 4 star…just for context i.e no-one here is likely to be too hard up).

We spent all morning at the pool (me, DH, DD and DS) on loungers and there was a woman next to my sun lounger on her own. We then went off to the pool bar for lunch. DD came back before us, took off her shorts (new denim shorts from Bershka, paid for with her holiday job..very excited by her new purchase) and left them on her lounger while she went in the pool. A few minutes later as we came back from lunch, she clambered out of the pool and said her shorts had gone.

The woman had moved about six loungers away. There was some denim at the top of her bag but I didn’t really think anything of it. I went over and asked if she had seen the shorts by any chance. She said no and cut the conversation dead pretty quick. Asked a few other mums who said no but had a look around. We also looked everywhere…the pool guy even went through all the used towels!

DD is size 6/8 so I did think it’s unlikely most other people could fit into them. But a bit later, a girl appeared next to the woman…similar age and size to DD.

At the end of the afternoon they stood up to go, and as they walked past, I’m sure the denim in the top of her bag was a pair of shorts. She had a dress on and her DD was wearing an outfit too, so they were both fully dressed.

I don’t know why but it’s really upset me. Would a grown women really steal a teenage girl’s clothes?! Obviously I had no proof so couldn’t say anything and I could hardly demand that I look through her bag!! I said to DD that I’ll buy her some more but it’s not really the point. It’s just left all of us feeling a bit icky.

I wouldn’t trust anyone to be honest. Shame for your daughter and upsetting - my daughter has those shorts too and they aren’t that cheap!
We are on holiday at the minute and my two daughters both left their white crocs by the poolside ( as everyone did the same) when they got out the pool they were nowhere to be seen. Looked everywhere.
Two pairs of white crocs turned back up about 5 hours later , the bigger pair were my eldest daughters however the smaller pair my youngest is absolutely convinced they are not hers ( plus hers had her initials in them, these ones don’t)
Really annoying so I’ll have to buy her another pair.
Very awkward as it’s hard to go round asking strangers if they have your daughters shoes especially as so many other kids have the same 😩
In our case though sounds like the crocs were possibly muddled up, your case probably taken on purpose.
I’d be mad, but very hard to prove it unfortunately.

Unfortunately it happens, we've had a few pairs or crocs and Nike sliders go missing by the pool. I like to think people get mixed up but we tuck them under the loungers out of sight so unlikely. Goggles and pool toys too.

Yes. Some twats would steal from children. Some do it for the thrill.

You could definitely say ‘excuse me, I think you’ve picked up dads shorts by accident. They’re there in your bag’. Point.

That way if she proved they’re not you just say ‘oh god I’m seeing those bloody shorts everywhere now, next I’ll think they’re in the buffet, sorry!’

If she refuses to show say you’re happy to get staff. Most likely though she’d faux find them and act surprised.

That’s really trampy of her if she did. Unfortunately nothing surprises us these days

Thank you all. Feel a bit less upset this morning although it’s a lesson learned. We’d been leaving phones, airpods etc scattered over sun loungers and not being overly careful. It’s a wake-up call that even in a nice family holiday resort not everyone is trustworthy. I still think it’s the height of skank though to steal a teenager’s nice shorts. I would have been far less upset if they had been mine, not DDs ; (
