I had! I’ve deleted the bottom half of the blooming post trying to add in “anything really”. I’ll give an abridged version!

Mine was with a really unreasonable neighbour in the downstairs flat to me.
She would literally scream at anyone who visited (which became rare as she’d scream). I put the flat on the market and she’d shout at the estate agent. The weird thing is I’d tried so hard to appease her, wasn’t even there a lot of the time and wasn’t noisy when I was. In the end I just thought fuck it.

I don't think that is a "might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb moment" unless you stole your neighbour's sheep. Did you, because that changes everything...?

as @APageInYourDiary said, it means if you're going to have the same punishment anyway you might as well get as much benefit as possible

I believe at one point the death penalty could apply for stealing anything worth more than a shilling (or maybe 6d? can't recall); so if there are two things each about as easy to take but one worth 1/6 and another worth 3/6 (and possibly more to the point able to feed twice as many people) it makes sense to go for the bigger one.

So more generally: if you're already past curfew you might as well stay for another dance. If you've pissed off the neighbour with your barbecue you might as well put the hot tub on.

In my case, it reached a bizarre stage of creeping around my flat to avoid the banging, middle of the night phone calls, shouting and screaming. I suddenly thought to myself wtf am I doing, she’s going to go nuts whatever I do and so lived more normally - still relatively quietly as I was not there a lot.

I don’t think you understand the saying. It doesn’t apply to the example you gave…

When I was a teenager there seemed to be an assumption that I was always up to no good. At the time I wasn't . Accused of drinking and smoking . I wasn't .I wasn't allowed out anywhere near as late as my friends because of these imaginary misdemeanours . In the end I thought fuck it if you're going to accuse me of doing this I might as well. I started staying out late, coming home much later than my friends hanging around with older people and drinking and smoking .

Mostly in relation to food, unfortunately
