Portable WiFi -: does anyone use this when traveling to Europe (Ireland) and can explain it to a 5(5) year old child?

How does this work?
Is it better to buy a device and get data loaded on it?
We're going to Ireland in a fortnight and the house we're staying in doesn't have WiFi.
Our mobile data is on Giffgaff which seems to only give you 5gb as well.
Anyone got any tips?

we used hippocket to go to France recently it was excellent. You pay a flat rate per day and get unlimited WiFi. They deliver you a device at your home, you take it with you then post it back afterwards. However it comes through 5g so if the place you are staying is very rural it might not work.

How long are you going for ? Depending on how rural you are it might not work anyway or be difficult to get . Dare I ask if you think it will be necessary. If there is a favourite show, etc, can you just download it ? If you go out , there is usually free access on restaurant etc. There is also children's TV . And surely a 5 year old can be told there is no WiFi here , plain and simple .

You can buy a physical box that uses the mobile phone network to connect to the internet, and then shares it via Wi-fi, this is often called "mobile broadband" or "Mobile Hotspot". It still needs a SIM and a payment of some sort. for example.

Alternatively most mobile phones will act as a "wifi hotspot", and effectively do the same thing.

The important thing to be aware of is they are reliant on being able to receive a 4 or 5G signal.

Another alternative is to use a Satellite based service, such as Starlink, but the cost and contract term would prohibitive.

I would check with the host whether there is 4G/5G coverage and if so which networks are available. (and ideally what speeds can they actually achieve)

I've just bought a flexifone SIM. This is for roaming in the UK, but also works abroad. Worth a look (mine cost for £45 for a year, getting 5Gb a month). You can use it as a hotspot, so essentially WiFi
