School shoes for boys going into Yr 7

Ds is moving up to Yr 7 in sept. His primary school are VERY relaxed about uniform, and all the noys wear trainers.

What sort of shoes are "acceptabke" if you are a yr 7 boy? Not by uniform standards, we will stick to those, but with other kids your age.

It'll be school dependent but my teens don't really care about this, or trainer brands, or other stuff that made you cool or brought about social suicide in the 1990s.

I'm not meaning to be unhelpful, it's just that anything seems to go at our school. We suggested laces rather than velcro for our son but even that was overthinking it, in hindsight. I just can't conceive of him showing the slightest bit of interest in someone else's school shoes. He just has chunky plain lace up start rite because they suit his feet and last well.

Our secondary had a rule of black polishable shoes - not trainers. The year 7 norm was Clarks with Velcro fastenings. Some schools insist on laces now, I gather. I think by year 10 laces were more common than Velcro and the most common style was the one I still see a lot of. There's a kind of metal bit at the base of the laces. Don't know the brand

Depends what the school allows. In our secondary, they nearly all wear the Nike Air Forces or a similar all black Nike shoe.

Kickers have been acceptable for my yr 7 this year!

Ds has just finished y7. We went through so many different pairs of shoes this year, expensive ones and cheap ones. Due to playing football (and my sons inability to keep out of water) none lasted long, until we bought nike airforce ones , which lasted all of the summer term and still look good now. Will definitely be buying them again when he out grows them.

Check the school uniform policy. Trainer style shoes, even if made by Kickers, are not allowed in my school. Plain chunky lace up or Velcro fastener are the best bet.

Nike Air Force One at my kids school.

My DC's school had a full page on their website pointing out exactly what they meant by acceptable school shoes whilst also showing the ones that were unacceptable with logos ot tassels. No Kickers, no coloured tabs, no trainer style, no branded shoes. Either velcro or lace ups polishable leather style shoes or Chelsea boots. Personally this was incredibly helpful and gave a lot of choice.

So firstly, check the school uniform listings to see what you are allowed. Mine had Clarks shoes as they had and still have very wide feet. They had velcro ones for year 7 but if you want to play it safe, lace ups.

Son wore Nike low court (or something like that!) trainers in all black pretty much all the way through high school. No issues.

Mine wear plain all black Adidas or Nike trainers from Sports Direct. No hint of colour is allowed.
